Our days are filled with 🌿 nature-based lessons & hands-on activities

Many of you know we love having and I've shared our chicken journey to encourage others to make the leap. Now I NEED YOUR HELP! Please help support backyard chickens in Prince George's County 🐔🥚🐥! The county's Dept. of Permitting, Inspection, and Enforcement (DPIE) is currently reviewing the rules around backyard chickens. PG County's current rules need to be modernized and aligned with the county's goals such as decreasing food deserts, improving resident's health, increasing regenerative agriculture, environmental goals, etc. The county even has an Urban Farm program to promote small scale farming. Yet much more modest backyard chicken setups for personal use are not currently permitted in a large portion of the county including in rural areas on lots that are a half acre (21,780 sq ft). This doesn't make sense and needs to change. In contrast, one can live in Baltimore City on a lot that is 2,000 sq ft or smaller and have four chickens.

Voice your support with a simple call or email to your local representative's offices. Don't worry, they won't ask you any question on the topic. Simply contact them, tell them you support backyard chickens in the county and want DPIE to allow it, and their office will take note. It takes about 30 seconds, that's it! Comment with who you've contacted once you've done so and spread the word to others that support backyard chickens, sustainability, health and wellness, self sustainability, or environmentalism.
