**Hyperkyphosis** commonly known as hunch back is an exaggeration of the “normal” posterior kyphosis curvature of the thoracic spine.(mid-upper back)
Often caused by disease or injury and weakness hyperkyphosis affects 20-40% of older adults traditionally.
Due to over use of cellphones, video games and poor desk posture this trend is increasing in younger generations like Gen Z(16-26)
In its early stages it starts as “text neck” however prolonged overuse and lack of correct postural behavior/ strength training hyperkyphosis can become a problem for many as they age.
Yet another condition that can be prevented with proper and regular use of massage therapy.
Research has shown that massage therapy to lengthen the pecs and anterior neck musculature coupled with strengthening back extensor muscles to be an effective therapy to reducing Hyperkyphosis.
If you are noticing your posture change it’s time to stop it in its tracks with proper care!
Remember this “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”
