Prairie Posse volunteer Kelly Smith and Stillwater board member Larry DeBolt worked on our the donated seedling transfer project for the Stillwater Hospice Prairie. We concluded it successfully yesterday after four planting sessions, despite heat, humidity and hungry animals (that nibbled some of our earlier transfer seedlings!)

🌾 Volunteer Power + Recycled Progress! 🛻
A big shoutout to the hardy Stillwater volunteers and support from .1st Brooks Construction who joined forces to tackle a tough—but necessary—task: building a new lane to our soil pile, now tucked away in the northwest corner of the prairie to keep it out of sight.
Thanks to a generous donation from Margi Brooks, $400 worth of Recycled Asphalt Product (RAP) was delivered and laid to create a firm, dark surface that holds up even in wet weather—without disrupting the peaceful view from our Grief Center. RAP, made from old streets being ground up for new ones, is not only sustainable but also a visual improvement over white gravel.
This was a massive, muddy, backbreaking job—but a successful one! 🙌 We're so grateful to everyone who lent their time, strength, and generosity to make this hidden corner of our grounds more functional and beautiful.

A century of commitment

The seeds of Visiting Nurse were planted in 1888, when women of the growing city of Fort Wayne, Indiana, banded together to deliver food and medicine to the “sick poor.” On March 1, 1900, Visiting Nurse was incorporated and hired its first paid nurse. Visiting Nurse’s mission is to provide compassionate care to alleviate suffering and ensure quality of life for those affected by serious illness through our hospice and palliative care services. Visiting Nurse cares for those who go on living, with grief support services available at no charge for any adult who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Hospice involvement is not required. We serve these Indiana counties: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Noble, Wabash, Wells and Whitley.
