Here is what’s been happening at Green Door Move Management-I met this couple on the day their 70th wedding anniversary.💚Peace and laughter prevail as I witnessed each day sorting + packing.
💚Truck was loaded at their home of 30 years, and unloaded and all boxes unpacked and removed from their assisted living apartment in one glorious late summer day.
💚Each client’s story is uniquely special to me, and these two are treasures! 🎁

I got this text tonight, following my client D’s move yesterday from senior apartment life to a beautiful and highly-regarded assisted living community here in Ft. Wayne. Some things are just too kind and dear not to share, because sometimes “we get by with a little help from our friends.”
“Hi dear friend, and late-in-the-day happy Cinco de Mayo to you!
I just want you to know that I thank God every day for sending you into my life when I had need of help. Your kind thoughtfulness has meant the world to me, in addition to the mountain of hard work and organizing that you so cheerfully gave. Bless you, dear Cara - He knew just what I needed and sent you to me. Thank God and thank you.”
Trust me, the blessing of knowing D has been poured out with overflow upon me!

I had a weekend I could never duplicate, helping out a friend conducting her parents estate sale. Here are just a few of the many highlights:
💚Creating themed gift baskets with the items still available and/or still being unearthed from the garage. Oh, the JOY when shoppers spotted a collection that was perfect for their loved one!!
💚Repeat customers- one dear lady came back 2 more times for a little more shopping! Another returned on half price day because she scours for bargains to fill a ‘store’ that serves those in need.
💚The cries of delight when people exclaimed “this reminds me of my grandmother!” or “I used to have that when I was little!”.
💚Perhaps the most impactful was the older woman who told me that she needs help desperately to declutter. There’s no one to help her, as her husband is an amputee. She’s overwhelmed and doesn’t know how to begin. This created an opportunity to tell her about my work in helping people navigate downsizing and planning for the next stage, and that there IS help for people *just like her*. I am so looking forward to her call.

Having the most soul-satisfying experience working with my new client Dee, who needs help downsizing and organizing before her move to a gorgeous assisted living community in FW. 🏘️
So far after only 2 days we have unearthed:🔍
💚the perforated half of her missing SS card so she can easily replace the original card she lost
💚her original documents for her long term care policy
💚her grandmothers 1940’s necklace as seen online selling for $1200.
💚The most satisfying find? A dusting powder box of la Dolce Vita by Christian Dior belonging to Dee’s mother. Though from the the mid 90’s, when opened the beautiful fragrance brought tears of memories to her eyes (and mine). 🥲
That is why hiring a senior move manager is always so valuable!

I found this dining room cabinet on FB Market Place last week. A 40-minute drive down soggy gravel country roads and she was mine. Price? $80. (A true “find” as you can see!)
A little lemon oil and voila! I’ll love her forever. Or at least for years to come.😊

Modern day heroes, they are. 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♂️
This took place today at an assisted living garden apartment where a grieving family decided to donate every single one of mom’s belongings, which I packed and readied for their arrival. These two retired gentlemen are spending their golden years volunteering driving big box trucks and moving the heaviest furniture in unfavorable conditions - and just look at those smiles! May you be the tiniest bit inspired today, whether to volunteer, donate, or thank someone who does! 💚

Calling this the “One that got away” ‘cause I didn’t buy it when I had the chance. 😭
So I have been thinking a lot about shopping local, small businesses this holiday season.
