Classes this week will include a Bhastrika Pranayama variation that works the nervous and circulatory systems. Build heat, clear your mind, and increase focus.

Several variations of Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana) will be threaded through the yoga sequence this week..
Why?
Because Pigeon Pose:
– Opens hip joint
– Lengthens hip flexor
– Stretches thighs, gluteals and piriformis muscles
– Extends groin and psoas
– Helps with urinary disorder
– Improves posture, alignment, and overall suppleness
– Lessens sciatica, lower back pain and stiffness

It is a primal reaction to store stress, trauma, fear and anxiety in the hips.
Pigeon Pose opens the hips and releases negative feelings and undesirable energy stored in your system.

Thankful for every teacher and student that has crossed my path.
This week's class sequence is inspired by a conversation with students today.
My yoga community is family...it may not be a typical family tree, but there are deep roots, many branches, and continual growth. Vrksasana (Tree) pose will be included with expansive heart openers. We will move as one on the same breath and support one another!

Rod Stryker did not disappoint!
Whirlwind trip to Chicago was so worth it!
I have weeks of material to digest.
Some quick (not so light) take aways:
NO "thing" is BLISSFUL-BLISS is in YOU!
Complication is a sign that you are far from yourSELF.

Conflict outside is a sign of conflict inside.

I was moved by a Trikonasana flow Rod led us through...it is a perfect addition to the work we started last week. Simple flows and Kapalabhati Pranayama this week AND some movement around the mat to highlight the full Beaver Moon!

Saturday I am heading to Chicago for a yoga training with Rod Stryker. I can't wait to be inspired in my current practice and in my teaching.

Trikonasana (Triangle) will get attention in classes this week. I will be using a Salutation inspired by Rod Stryker to get the body ready. Building blocks and challenges will be added along with Pranayama practices. Seeking stability and balance through alertness on and off the mat.

This 5 week session will focus on pranayama practices to ignite fire (agni), twists to purify, and relaxation for restoration. The format-sequence will be the same for all 5 weeks:
-pranayama
-rhythmic opening
-surya namaskar
-length and twist
-relaxation
This gives the body and mind a chance to experience deeper layers of awareness. As elemental balance happens the body craves what it needs for optimal health.

Monday Night is "make up" class at 3 River's Soap Shop for those enrolled in current session. A few spots open for $10 drop in for anyone not in current session.

This week in class we will be moving energy through the bod by following intuitive movement. You may be holding a pose for a few breaths, but the energy is MOVING! Navel Chakra will be stimulated which regulates strength and mental clarity.

Jathara Parivartansasana will be included in classes this week. Overall emphasis on twisting. In the Sanskrit word "jathara" the root word "hara" translates to belly. Find balance and inner elasticity in your physical center to respond to any situation. Tone the gastric regions and reduce excess fat by strengthening the digestive force (jatharagni).

Traditionally there are said to be 840,000 poses possible to reach a body's full potential! My home practice space has a poster featuring over 900 and I thought that was impressive! Asana work takes TIME! To master the postures it is important to know name, meaning, and form. Repetition and total attention in Mind, Body, and Heart come next. HUMILITY and practicing as an ACT OF DEVOTION lead to MEDITATION IN ACTION! SO Much more than a STRETCH!
