(4)

Currently offering a unique blend of Traditional Thai Bodywork, with a tool box built from Thai Buddhist Medicine, Western Herbalism, Somatics, and Trigger Point Therapy. Clinical Thai Bodywork addresses specific clinical conditions using trigger point therapy, osteopathic techniques, structural analysis, and pain referral patterns. Headaches, TMJ, foot pain, shin splints, sacral pain, sciatica, g

roin pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder injuries, neck pain...in most cases, these conditions are perpetuated by muscles and their trigger points. Clinical Thai looks specifically at any muscles that may be perpetuating these pain patterns, and attempts to reset the muscles involved--alleviating the pain and discomfort.

Sometimes, I compose poetry with my clients. Last night, my 13 year old client and I composed this short and sweet verse:

“My body is my home.
My home is my body.
I like being Home.
There’s no other place to BE”.

I've been practicing out of a new space for a few months and have neglected to update all of you! I'm practicing in a chiropractic office with a practitioner who is offering Network Spinal Analyis. I'm SO excited to share this impactful healing modality with all of you, and to introduce you to Dr. Lindsay. She also has a page, please "like" her page to receive updates on new patient events at the office. We're also collaborating on a promotion with you this month: book your initial consultation and exam with Dr. Lindsay, and you'll receive a complimentary 90 minute session with me! Embodied in the Thai Buddhist medicine tradition is the concept of Metta, or loving kindness for all sentient beings. Metta is the basis for shared joy, compassion, and the recognition of our inherent value. I was reminded of this embodied, present energy while working on a new client. He shared with me that the word "kind" kept reverberating throughout his awareness during our session. For him, thai massage felt "kind", and it was a new experience for him in the realm of massage. Metta is indeed present when we lay our hands on another, and hold their inherent potential and well being as sacred.

I love educating my clients about the need for self-care. Some of my personal favorite self-care techniques use a high density foam roller for myofascial release work. I'm hosting a FREE workshop next Thurs, Aug 6, as part of Creative Women of the World's "Week of Wellness". Please join me for a juicy, accessible hour of release and ease using a foam roller and therapy ball. There are many wonderful events that are centered around self-care, see the full list to pre-register here, http://www.gocwow.org/events/weekofwellness

What is your favorite summer go-to shoe? I see the flip flops start to come out this time of year. While I can certainly understand the appeal (sliding on flip flops and walking out the door rocks, right?), I want to caution against wearing flip-flops as a summer staple. Over and over, the number one pain referral I see in the summer is plantar fasciitis. Linking an article here for your consideration, as the talking points are related to the many complications of flip flop use. I want to diverge on one point, though--plantar fasciitis and flip flop use are not just related because of the lack of arch support. Myofascially, flip flops are dangerous because they place excessive stress while walking (we must clench each time we walk with the toes to keep them on), which in turns places enormous stress on the calves. Over time, this strain creates an environment for trigger points in the calf muscles. Calf muscles are shortened, tight, and begin to refer to the bottom of the foot. If you'd like to support your feet in the best possible way, and love the freedom of having your toes liberated, look for sandals with a back strap. Try to reserve the flip flops for the pool and beach use. You can still have your cake AND eat it, too! :)

They're quintessential summer apparel, but could they really be hurting our feet in the long term? (Short answer: it just might be time to go shoe shopping...)
