Recovery homes vs recovery programs:
Many people don't understand the difference between a recovery home (sometimes called halfway house) and a recovery program. We hope this clears up some questions.
Recovery homes:
1. Come in many shapes and sizes some are resident run (no paid staff) others have house managers and some have paid directors. It's important to know what type of supervision each home you are applying to has.
2. Sometimes they have on-site programming but most rely on outside 12-Step meetings to guide their programming.
3. Many have differing lengths of stay, fee structures, and rules. Make sure you ask questions about each of these. The average weekly fee is $180 to $200. Insurance isn't normally accepted in recovery homes. Sometimes the weekly fee includes meals and sometimes it doesn't.
Recovery programs:
1. Programs also come in many shapes and sizes, most have paid staff and a good program will have 24 hour awake staff for the safety of the residents.
2. Most programs have their own programming. Some are faith based, some not. Programming is most often run by trained staff and participation in groups is often required.
3. Lengths of time in programs varies widely but most are 30-day programs or 6-month programs. The average fee also ranges, some are insurance based and fees can be over $100,000 per month, others are free programs (most free programs are faith centered). Meals are generally included.
The Lighthouse:
Our Anchored program falls into the recovery program category. We are a faith centered (biblical counseling) program with 28 beds available.
We have 24 hour awake staff for the safety of our residents. This is a very important thing, and our staff does 24/7 walk-throughs every 20 minutes as a safety precaution.
Our programming is ran by our trained Care Management team and Program Director. Each leader has specialized training in addiction, faith, and case management. In the beginning, residents attend 4 to 5+ groups per day, have personalized homework, and also engage in biblical counseling with our on-site counselors.
We run two programs, a 30-day lock-down program and a 6-month work-program. We do not take insurance, and our 30-day program is free. We do ask for a $200 application fee but have assistance if this fee is not feasible. Those entering our 6-month program are asked to pay $120 a week once employment is secured. Food is covered for all meals in our 30-day program and food assistance is given to those in our work program if needed.
In addition, we have a vibrant community which we seek to connect our residents and graduates to. Healthy community is important and is vital for long term success.
