AAC is so much more than a device! It’s a way to connect with others in meaningful ways. When someone gets a device they can share details of stories, tell jokes, express shared joy, protest safely! It’s a way for them to be understood easily all the time.

They may have been able to gesture and get general needs met before, but with AAC they can get specific and that is so powerful!!

Every month I do a group call with parents who are in my AAC training program! Parents have said that they:
✨ love that they or short and bite sized
✨ actionable
✨ answer questions they didn’t know they had
✨ gives new ideas and things to try

These myths are still very prevalent and are discussed frequently as pain points in the AAC community. They are holding people back from communicating!

Parents I encourage you to not take these myths as truth from anyone! You are your child’s best advocate!

Professionals I encourage you to help in stooping the spread of these myths. When you hear them speak to what the research is saying!

AAC is an amazing tool but it’s not an intuitive process! Parents you deserve training- more than just a one time meeting or when you have a question.

Calling all AAC-loving SLPs!
I’m looking for a Speech-Language Pathologist to partner with us on virtual AAC assessments to help families access insurance-funded AAC devices.

Here’s what I’m looking for:
- A passion for AAC and supporting communication access
- Experience in writing funding reports
- Licensed in Indiana *or* open to getting licensed
- Comfortable working virtually and collaborating
Our program puts a strong emphasis on parent training and family input to make sure every device is not just appropriate for the AAC user—but also practical, sustainable, and a great fit for the whole family.
We’re growing and looking to bring on additional SLPs to support this work. If you’re looking for flexible, meaningful work in AAC with a team-based approach, I’d love to hear from you!
This is a couple hours per week contracted position that has the ability for you to set your own number of clients at a time. You would be responsible for assisting with the device assessment and funding. Once the family has the device then they typically start ongoing parent training with me.

New therapy game for AAC! This or that is so flexible! You can work on preferences, saying you don’t like ____, new vocabulary, expanding on the things you like! So many options!

Expand through discussing memories of doing this thing or going to that place!

All vocabulary has been checked against Tobii motor plan, TD snap, Proloquo2go, LAMP, and TouchChat so no matter what robust system you use your AAC user can participate!

Now hear me out! YES the device does need to be out and ready AND you have to use it too.

Just having it out won’t help them learn, we have to help them! We model language all day verbally- but they may not be able to communicate verbally. So we also have to use their method of communication.

I am presenting on February 27 at 1pm in Fort Wayne IN. I will be talking about how to understand the major robust systems, what tools are already built into the system to help you! And how to create activities/ interventions that will help your AAC user with their device in the classroom, day program, therapy, at home and anywhere else you are working. I’ll give every profession in the room practical ideas of what they can do that day or the next!

👊🎤 We have to do better for AAC users!

I do understand where people are coming from when they have to is perspective! However we have to move past that and allow system that seem hard to be considered.

If your continued comments about the device are that it is too hard, and too much to look at, and you tell others around the user that it’s too much then how are they supposed to have courage to try it??

In all of my AAC assessments we start with a large grid size and very rarely have we needed to downsize. When we did it was more of a matter of ability to access the screen.

When we show them how to work it they do it! They are brave to try- you can be brave too!

Hi! I’m Shelley and I am truly excited you are visiting my little corner of the Internet 💕

🎶I am a board certified Music Therapist with a minor in American Sign Language. I am an Assistive Technology Specialist and certified in several AAC programs can you tell I like communication??!

🐈 This is my cat Lady Sage that I love with my whole heart! She is very sweet and enjoys giving hugs. Just last night she asked for one and then fell asleep on my shoulder 😭 so cute!!

💻 I really really love all things AAC! I hope that is why you are here too! I am passionate about helping families and professionals learn more about it so they can assist the users in their life!

🐾 My hobbies include fostering kittens typically March-November through if you want to see cute foster pics you can follow that page too my special skill is I can hold at least 8 kittens in my arms at once 💁‍♀️

💃I also enjoy ballroom dance! Have been dancing for 2 years now and just competed for the first time in December
