One of the reasons I love EMDR as a modality, is that it has built-in assessment tools. Talk therapy *can* be very helpful for specific populations or needs, but it can lack a sense of purposefulness and momentum. EMDR, however, has built in methods to determine the goal of the work, target the work, and assess how successful the work has been. That system helps both client and therapist to be able to conceptualize how far along in the therapeutic process they are. That alone has immense value. It can infuse a sense of hope when positive change is identified and witnessed.

'Tis the season of change - kids are going back to school soon (does it seem early to anyone else?) and routines will be changing. Depending on your point of view, change can be welcome or dreaded. Whether or not you are a fan of change - it's what therapy is all about. What is something in your life that you'd like to see change?

Have you ever utilized "homeopathy"?

Homeopathy is one of the complementary medicine approaches I have written about (here: https://www.jessicawitmer.com/articles/integrative-mental-healthcare-101).

Homeopathy is used in countries all over the world as a gentle and natural form of healthcare. Some prescribers even use it for mental health!

This documentary sheds light on what homeopathy has done for some people with serious illnesses!

Paradigms are not really all that stable. They, if you are prone to growth, can shift and change and expand.

The process of a paradigm shift can be painful as aspects of the old perspective are torn down. It can feel very destabilizing, like the ground is shifting underfoot. What you understood before, what you believed and trusted, you believe no more.

Ouch! Scary! The destabilization affects the way you understand the world, and your self-concept and idenity. It modifies relationships.

When this becomes evident, some people might be prone to resist the shift and retreat, as if the shift will cost too much.

But. If you stick with it, and allow the renovation to occur, something new eventually emerges to take the place of what was lost in the remodeling.

A new point on the horizon. New bits of data to add to the dataset, and those get configured in until a new solid form is set in place.

And voila! What you saw before, you can longer see. You see it a new way. A new sense of stability, and the form or view is bigger, wider, or more comprehensive.

Oh, and this change isn’t merely an ethereal one either! It is hardwired into matter- in your neural pathways.

In changing your perspective, you have changed your brain. In changing your mind, you have influenced the expression of matter.

Today I am feeling an overwhelming gratitude for the people who I call "clients". I absolutely love having the privilege of witnessing firsthand the personal growth and the transformations that people make day in and day out. Gratitude.

Teach your children how to say “no”. Let them practice that skill on you. It’s a skill no one ever regrets having. 💛
