💩🥳Bowel and bladder dysfunction is so commonly brushed off, but toileting difficulties often impact the entire family unit, and that is enough reason for concerns to be taken seriously.

So thankful for families that have trusted me to help their kids and in turn the family as a whole 🥹❤️

QUIZ TIME: Can you spot the happier, healthier pelvic floor? #1 or #2???

#1!!! This ultrasound image, taken in session, shows a nice bowl shape to the floor of the bladder, no re**al stool burden, and showed good movement with breathing in realtime.

#2 Shows significant constipation with the re**um so overloaded with stool that it is dilated to over 150% larger than it is supposed to be and pushing into the bladder.

Would you believe these images are from the same patient several weeks apart???

This kid came to me with suspected constipation, urinary and f***l incontinence, bedwetting, urinary frequency/urgency, and a lot of anxiety related to toileting and leakage.

5 sessions later, this same kid graduated pelvic floor OT with NO MORE incontinence, a better understanding of how his body works, and improved his re**al diameter from 44 to 26mm (anything over 30mm is clinically constipated).

More importantly—he graduated signing up for a basketball camp he couldn’t attend before because of bowel and bladder difficulties, his family threw away the “dirty underwear basket”, and he exudes a newfound confidence.

Rehabilitative Ultrasound Imaging (RUSI) is such a powerful tool that I use almost every session. It gives us realtime measures of constipation, pelvic floor coordination, and bladder health—No more wondering or guessing! All while kids get to “see your insides”.

🧻Whether you are in the thick of potty training, just welcomed your newborn, or are considering a gift to support a little you love— these are all top notch potty training product suggestions from a pro:

🚽TRAVEL POTTY- Every parent has heard the dreaded “I have to p*eeee” with no toilet in sight and/or a sleeping sibling in the car. There are plenty of options, but my favorite is from . This bad boy can be used on-the-go with a disposable bag or even folds out to act as a travel potty seat. You won’t catch my minivan without one 😅

💨BLOWING TOYS- We all know to tell our kids to “PUUUUSH” when learning to potty, but did you know that pushing should NOT mean holding your breath? Using blow toys on the potty is a great way to help kids breathe and relax their pelvic floor for more comfortable and efficient toileting.

🩲TRAINING UNDERWEAR- Like regular underwear, but better. These un**es have reinforced layers to help absorb p*e or poo for less mess, while still letting you and your little have awareness that they’ve went. has the best option available in store IMO!

💩SQUATTY POTTY (or similar stool)- I’ve shared the importance of supported feet with knees positioned higher than hips before (for kids and adults), and a stool is the perfect way to achieve that! Stool, books, upside down trashcan— I don’t care how you do it, just do it! Your pelvic floor will thank you👌

Fact or Crap #4:
💩CRAP!

When it comes to having healthy bowel movements — WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER!

Proper toileting posture and bathroom setup makes it easier to:

👌Fully evacuate poo
👌Decrease the time it takes to poo
👌Relax and lengthen pelvic floor muscles
👌Avoid straining and discomfort

🏆Ideal toileting posture is: ➡️Feet firmly planted on an elevated surface to get knees higher than waist level (think Squatty Potty, books, overturned trash can, etc.) ➡️Leaned forward with straight back ➡️Resting forearms on knees/thighs

▪️This magical position has 2 huge advantages:

🪄Reducing the pull on the U-shaped pubore**alis muscle that wraps around the re**um
🪄Focuses your breathing and stabilizing muscles on helping you poo vs holding you up on the toilet

Is your kid 0-18 struggling with uncomfortable, infrequent, or troublesome bowel movements? Looking at toileting posture is a great place to start!
