35 years ago today, The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), was signed into law by then-President George H.W. Bush. The ADA protects the civil rights of people with disabilities, prohibiting discrimination based on disability and guarantees equal access to public buildings, employment opportunities, transportation and access to state and local government services.
The fight for equality was not won overnight, it was a decades-long battle that many believe ended at the steps of Congress, but some would argue continues to this day.
