For twenty five years, ASC has been a place where meaningful connections, compassionate care, and unforgettable moments shape every day. To celebrate this milestone, we asked our residents and team members to finish the phrase “ASC is…” and share the first thing that comes to mind.

Their answers say it all: good food, teamwork, love, friends, fun, independence, great service, fulfilling, lifesaver, peace of mind, all about family, care, my home now, just what I needed, and “I love it here.”

We celebrated National Apple Cider Day at Glenbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation! Residents enjoyed apple cider, caramel apple doughnuts, and fall cookies! We learned that cider dates back to the ancient times in the Middle East around 2000 B.C. with the first recorded mention of cider in England in the 14th century. Today it is enjoyed worldwide!

Congratulations to Katie Bird, Social Services Director, our Quest for Excellence winner for 2025, who was celebrated last night at the Quest for Excellence award banquet at the Marriott in Indianapolis. The Quest for Excellence award is the highest level of recognition an ASC employee can receive, honoring those who exhibit a compassionate and dedicated approach that surpasses their typical job requirements.

Congratulations Katie Bird, Social Services Director, our Quest for Excellence winner for 2025! We are looking forward to honoring this year's outstanding Quest Winners at the banquet on November 13 at the Marriott in Indianapolis.

Katie Bird has been our social worker at Glenbrook Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing for 3 years. During that time, she has built great relationships with the residents and staff alike. She has helped many residents through difficult times, assisting them and just being there to support them. Katie also leads our Fun Committee that meets regularly to plan events and celebrations for residents and staff.

Katie embodies our core CARE values at all times. She always wears a smile and keeps a positive attitude, encouraging positivity in others. Katie jumps in anywhere needed to help and goes beyond her job duties every day to help residents and co-workers.

Katie ventured into long-term care when she joined Glenbrook. She shared, “I chose long-term care because I wanted to continue my experience through mental health and community needs. I take pride in helping others achieve goals whether it be mentally, socially, or physically. I enjoy being the person others can lean on with a listening ear. We work with a lot of individuals who do not have family support, so to become part of their “family” - someone they can trust - is what it’s all about. Everyone deserves a second chance and for most of our residents, this is their second chance at changing their lives. I am thankful I can help guide them in a positive direction.”

Katie grew up in Michigan with her mom, dad, and sister. She is a dog mom of two, the fantastically furry Ranger, and Teddy. She enjoys traveling, hiking, visiting National Parks, playing softball, sand volleyball, and painting.
