The Story of Why Not You

“Why Not You” didn’t begin as a program it began as a purpose.

For years, I witnessed the silent struggles of young people who felt unseen, unheard, and unsure of their worth. But it wasn’t until I lost my own brother, Leo, to su***de that this mission became deeply personal. His death left a scar on my heart that words can’t fully explain, but it also lit a fire in my soul to prevent other families from experiencing that same kind of pain.

In the aftermath of his loss, I started asking questions that wouldn’t let me go:

Why do so many young people feel alone in a world full of people?
Why aren’t we equipping them with the tools to navigate their emotions, their identity, and their future?
Why not build something that gives them hope, healing, and the ability to believe in themselves again?

And then, it hit me:
Why not me?
Why not now?
Why not you?

That question—Why Not You—became a declaration. A challenge. A movement.

What started as a vision in the middle of heartbreak has grown into a nonprofit committed to su***de prevention, mental health awareness, and youth empowerment. We focus on preteens and teens, equipping them with coping skills, promoting self-care, and creating safe spaces for real conversations. Through workshops, school partnerships, mentorship, and community engagement, we meet them where they are—before crisis becomes tragedy.

“Why Not You” is more than a name. It’s a belief that every child, no matter their background or struggle, has purpose, potential, and power. And with the right support, they can rise—not just to survive, but to thrive.

This movement was born from pain—but it is fueled by love. And it will continue to grow because we believe that healing is possible, hope is real, and change begins when someone dares to ask:

Why not you?

Stoic Saturday 🤌🏽✨

📖 A Story of Resilience.
Meet Viola Davis.

From Poverty to Stardom

Viola Davis was born in South Carolina in 1965 and raised in abject poverty in Central Falls, Rhode Island. Her family struggled to make ends meet, often lacking basic necessities like food, running water, and adequate housing. Davis has shared how growing up in such dire circumstances left a profound impact on her. She endured not only economic hardship but also the emotional toll of systemic racism and societal neglect. In 2017, Davis became the first Black actor to achieve the “Triple Crown of Acting,” winning an Oscar, an Emmy, and two Tony Awards. Her performance in Fences earned her an Academy Award, while her groundbreaking role in How to Get Away with Murder made her the first Black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Viola’s story shows us that the road may be rough but there is always beauty in struggle. It’s a story of hope and strength! 💞

If you have a story of hope, share it to inspire others. You never know who needs to hear it. 🌱

Ballin’ for a Cause is so much more than just a basketball game—it’s a movement, a purpose, and a call to action. It’s a chance to bring awareness to mental health, fight against the heartbreaking reality of su***de, and stand together as a community rooted in love, compassion, and hope.

This event isn’t just about the points scored on the court; it’s about the lives impacted beyond it. It’s about people coming together, united by a shared mission to shed light in a world that often feels too heavy with darkness. It’s about using something as simple and joyful as basketball to spark conversations that matter, build connections that heal, and foster an environment where no one feels alone.

Every player, every supporter, every fan in the stands becomes part of something bigger—an effort to turn pain into purpose, silence into support, and despair into hope.

So let’s celebrate the courage it takes to speak up, the strength it takes to keep going, and the beauty of a community that refuses to give up on one another. This is more than a game; it’s a chance to do what we love with the people we love and bring joy to a world that needs it.

Together, we are lighting the way, one shot, one conversation, and one act of kindness at a time. Let’s keep Ballin’ for a Cause and remind everyone that they matter, that they’re seen, and that they’re never alone.
