Akofena Team training.
This was a rough go. By this time, I'm definitely dehydrated despite having a cooler of various drinks. Pushed through, got the job done, and was miserable the whole time. It was 7 push-ups for every "miss", and we definitely got stronger that day. Get out, train, and embrace the Suck.

Yesterday. 1 PM. Ferris, TX. It was a hot one, but couple, Aaquib and Zahra, we're ready and willing to train. High energetic, and full of questions, we knocked out a noteworthy training course, and they exceptionally well for first-timers. Much appreciation to them for entrusting me with their introduction to fi****ms.

Another reason why Stop The Bleed courses are just as important, if not more, than fi****ms training.

A few nights ago, a team member took a blade to the arm. Almost when completely through. Watched this man push an exposed artery back in his forearm. He's been through worse. I ran over as he called out to me, then showed me his injury. This hit a lil' different because I work with this individual, and I kinda fumbled a bit because I was moving faster than I needed to.

He gets me to refocus, and I apply my tourniquet while he keeps pressure on the wound. Then I applied and wrapped the wound with gauze before cutting it and reapplying pressure just as the paramedics arrived. Easy money.

Situations like these are why it's crucial to have an IFAK (or multiple), and training on how to use them. I keep at least 3 tourniquets on my duty gear. That's just me.

This was my second time using a tourniquet in the field. Paramedics said we did well, but told us the science on tourniquets has changed. They said unless a limb is missing or blood is gushing, all you need to do is pack the wound, wrap the wound, and apply pressure. Supposedly this was learned after the Boston bombing. I'd like to hear some thoughts on that from my TacMed folk.

Anyway, team member missed anything vital, and is already back at it. Just a walk in the park for him. Stay safe out there.
