And we're back! Great day of training with "Sis. Supreme". She was grouping left of the X, but we discovered her rear sight was off center. We worked through it and got those impacts in the A Zone where we wanted them. Great job, sis.

Had a great 1 on 1 session with Bro Bilal. Shot extremely well for his first time handling a G17 Gen 1. We were having some failure to load issues, so after confirming it wasn't the pistol, we worked on his grip. Thankfully, I had the Tactical Old Head, Dawud of TEK Power Tactical, next door. He volunteered his time to help out with my student, thus blessing my game. Afterward, Bilal said he left far more confident with his firearm than expected. Didn't hurt that he A Zoned 98% of his shots either. This is how we do it.

Another reason why Stop The Bleed courses are just as important, if not more, than fi****ms training.

A few nights ago, a team member took a blade to the arm. Almost when completely through. Watched this man push an exposed artery back in his forearm. He's been through worse. I ran over as he called out to me, then showed me his injury. This hit a lil' different because I work with this individual, and I kinda fumbled a bit because I was moving faster than I needed to.

He gets me to refocus, and I apply my tourniquet while he keeps pressure on the wound. Then I applied and wrapped the wound with gauze before cutting it and reapplying pressure just as the paramedics arrived. Easy money.

Situations like these are why it's crucial to have an IFAK (or multiple), and training on how to use them. I keep at least 3 tourniquets on my duty gear. That's just me.

This was my second time using a tourniquet in the field. Paramedics said we did well, but told us the science on tourniquets has changed. They said unless a limb is missing or blood is gushing, all you need to do is pack the wound, wrap the wound, and apply pressure. Supposedly this was learned after the Boston bombing. I'd like to hear some thoughts on that from my TacMed folk.

Anyway, team member missed anything vital, and is already back at it. Just a walk in the park for him. Stay safe out there.

Sometimes you'll have to do more than pat downs and bag checks. Somebody someday may very well depend on your training. Last night was the first time ever using a tourniquet outside of training.
It looked bad, but the lady is going to be ok. She somehow stepped on a broken bottle that was in the parking lot hours before she arrived. This happened outside my work area and I only went over there because I felt my team member was taking too long getting a number. Props to him for staying with her and wrapping and elevating her leg. He was a lil' shook by the situation, but he did more than the folk standing around filming. Now I know what my ahk, Darren Watson, was talking about in regards to first aid. Her "friends" partying & bs'ing in the lounge (at least 1 of them knew she was bleeding out there). Nobody called 911 until 5 minutes before I called and it was a good 20 minutes before I went over there. Anyway, I was able to stop the bleed, and the paramedics were happy to see "somebody do something."
Learning experience all around.
