I realized the other day that I have not posted on here in quite some time.
It has been a very busy year so far for Shane & I.
We’ve had 6 hospital stays so far, steady lab draws for his transplant, Norovirus that seemed like it was never going to go away, and of course our airway reconstruction is still very much a project.
Missing family events, holidays, birthdays, etc.

But we are doing the best we can & we are getting somewhere!
Today, Shane has a scope, his second in the last month. This will show us the inside of his trachea and give us an idea of what his airway is doing. We pray for positive news everytime, and so far we’ve never received debilitating news. God comes through for us everytime.
This one feels different, today I am praying that God brings complete healing to Shane’s body. I pray for a miracle that only he can provide. I know Shane has such a big life ahead of him that God has created and I pray to God that life will be miraculous and Shane will be one of His disciples here on Earth.
If you could, please say a prayer with us.

Good morning friends and family!
Happy Sunday! 🙏🏼♥️

We are still inpatient, but out of the PICU & in our “home away from home” unit here at AFCH-UWKids Hospital. ♥️

This holiday season, Shane and I are wanting to bless others because we were blessed with his Make-A-Wish!
We asked our nurse friends what would help families that have long stays here like us?
They said they are hoping to get more Roku sticks for the rooms because they don’t have enough for everyone.
I also mentioned about getting some Disney+ gift cards for kids who may be here without a parent present
So!
I am asking here, if you have it in your heart to donate $20 for a Roku Stick, or $25 for a Disney+ Gift Card, I would love to gift it to the families staying at the Children’s Hospital here in Madison.
I have included the prices for each at the local Walmart, I have both CashApp and Venmo.

To all of our lovely friends & family,
Thank you for your patience and unwavering support.

To say the last three weeks has been a whirlwind, is an understatement.

On 11/03, Shane underwent surgery to fix his airway so he could be trach free, everything looked great, we were discharged a couple weeks later.

On 11/18, I brought Shane back to the ER at UW because he was breathing a bit harder and seemed off.
We found out the next day that Shane’s graft was trying to fail. (The piece used to fix his airway)
They tried to fix it and said we will see how he does until Friday. He did not do great.
They went in Friday and found that the graft had been disintegrating and left a hole in his trachea.
With that, they decided to put his trach back into place and put a stent above it with hopes of saving the work they did. This will be in place for roughly 6 months.
There are new challenges and obstacles, BUT nothing Shane and I cannot handle.
We believe in the power of prayer and God is going to heal my son.

Thank you everyone for the love and encouragement, it gets me through the slow days.

When you go, because eventually we all do, why not be an organ donor? Why not save someone else’s life? A child who hasn’t had the opportunity to live?

I won’t get on a soap box, BUT Shane is one of those liver numbers and today, on our one year anniversary of his liver transplant, I celebrate his donor. I don’t know them, I can’t send a card, but I can pray that they know how grateful I am for their selfless sacrifice. ♥️

Back story:
Having a medically compromised child makes you very reluctant to go to new places, see new doctors, nurses. Once you get a routine, the fear is you’ll never get it back and these new people couldn’t love your child like their previous medical team.
That was until I was visiting family last year and my whole world changed.
I cannot praise UW Health Kids enough.
Shane sees:
Transplant
GI
Pulmonology
Endocrinology
Speech
Hematology/Oncology
ENT
Audiology

There has been no better care than the care we receive.
We have been fortunate to have amazing doctors, residents, fellows, & THE BEST NURSES.

These people made me feel like home, even though it was a 1,000 miles away. ♥️

God blessed us with UWHealth. 🙏🏼

No news is good news, right?
I’m sorry I haven’t updated as much as I’d like to, we’ve been on a journey of weaning sedation meds and that my friends was NOT easy 😅

We have one med left to wean & then we are home free! 👏🏼🙌🏼

Shane is slowly getting back to his normal self, sleeping for 4 1/2 days does a number.
We are working diligently with PT/OT to get back to climbing and our usual activities.

We praise God for this wonderful miracle that is Shane & pray that he can now be a (almost) 3 year old full of life and no limits. ♥️

Hey y’all.
Shane woke up today with a very high fever.
We aren’t sure if he contracted something or if he is showing more signs of withdrawal.

If you could pray for him, I would be forever grateful.
This has been a tough week and we are ready for him to be back to his spunky self.
