When you feel dizzy, the instinct is to freeze, sit still, and avoid anything that might trigger it again. That makes sense.

But for many people, too much avoidance teaches your brain that normal movements are “dangerous,” which can increase sensitivity over time and keep dizziness hanging around.

A better approach is usually:

Move within a safe range (no pushing into panic levels)
Gradually reintroduce triggers with guidance
Train the system with the right balance, gaze, and head movement exercises

If dizziness has you avoiding daily activities, you are not alone, and you are not stuck.

If you have dizziness or vertigo, a vestibular PT visit is usually very structured and specific, not a random workout.

Here’s what often happens:

Your story and symptom patterns
When it happens, what triggers it, how long it lasts, what makes it better or worse.

Safety screen
Checking for red flags and making sure you are in the right place for care.

Targeted testing
Eyes, balance, walking, and head movement tests to pinpoint which system is involved.

Treatment the same day
This may include positional techniques (if appropriate), gaze stability work, balance drills, and gentle exposure exercises.

Home plan
Simple, specific exercises plus clear do’s and don’ts so you feel confident between visits.

Goal: fewer episodes, faster recovery, and steadier walking in real life.

Vertigo can feel scary, so it’s normal to try anything to make it stop fast. But these 3 mistakes often make things last longer:

Trying random maneuvers from the internet
Not all vertigo is the same. The wrong maneuver can do nothing, or make you feel worse.

Staying in bed and avoiding movement
Total rest can increase sensitivity and make you feel more off-balance over time.

Ignoring triggers and patterns
Rolling in bed, looking up, busy stores, dehydration, lack of sleep, and stress can all be clues. Tracking patterns helps you get the right fix sooner.

If your dizziness is frequent, getting evaluated matters. The goal is to find the cause and build a plan that actually works.

Balance is not just “being steady.” It’s teamwork.

Your brain is constantly combining signals from:
👀 Eyes (what you see)
👂 Inner ear (motion and head position)
🦶 Joints and muscles (where your body is in space)

When one system is off, you might feel dizzy, unsteady, or anxious about walking, especially in the dark or busy places.

The good news: these systems can be trained. With the right plan, your body can improve how it processes balance signals.

Ever feel like the room suddenly spins when you roll over, sit up, or look up? That pattern is a common clue your dizziness may be positional.

Here’s what to do next:

Pause and sit still until it passes
Avoid driving if you feel unsafe
Get assessed so you know what’s actually causing it

You do not have to “just live with it.” The right evaluation can point you to the right fix.

Shockwave therapy may help stimulate healing in tight, irritated soft tissues around the jaw and cervical spine. By increasing circulation and activating your body’s repair response, it can help reduce chronic tension and improve movement.

This is especially helpful for TMJ dysfunction, muscle tightness, and persistent head and neck pain that has not responded to traditional care.

At Fort Worth Head, Neck, and Jaw, shockwave therapy is paired with targeted manual therapy and corrective movement to support long-term results.

Most people think neck pain is just bad posture.

But posture is only part of the story.

We see neck pain caused by:
• Jaw clenching
• Stress
• Shallow chest breathing
• Old injuries
• Muscle imbalances

If you have been stretching and sitting up straighter but your neck still hurts, there may be something deeper going on.

At Fort Worth Head, Neck, and Jaw, we look at the full system, not just where it hurts.

Do you notice neck pain and headaches showing up together?

That connection is not a coincidence.

Tight neck muscles and strained ligaments can refer pain up into the head, often leading to tension headaches. Poor posture, like hunching over a computer or phone, can make both neck pain and headaches more frequent. On the flip side, migraines and other headaches can also cause neck stiffness and discomfort as part of the pattern.

The good news is that addressing the root causes can help both issues at the same time.

Woke up with neck pain and blamed your pillow?

You are not alone. One of the most common things we hear is, “I think I slept wrong.” While your sleeping position can play a role, most neck pain actually builds up over time from posture, stress, jaw tension, and long hours on phones or computers.

If your neck feels stiff when you turn your head, sore at the base of your skull, or tight between your shoulders, your body might be asking for help.

At Fort Worth Head, Neck, and Jaw, we look at the full picture. Your neck. Your jaw. Your posture. Even how you breathe.

You do not have to live with constant stiffness or headaches. Contact us if your neck has been bothering you lately. Let’s figure it out together.

Neck pain is not always just about posture or tight muscles.

Your breathing habits may be playing a bigger role than you realize.

Many people rely on chest and neck muscles to breathe instead of using the diaphragm. Over time, this can overload the neck, leading to tension, fatigue, and even chronic pain that never fully goes away.

This blog explains:
• How breathing patterns affect neck pain
• Why chest breathing creates extra strain on the neck
• What healthy breathing should look like
• How physical therapy can help retrain both breathing and movement

Sometimes the solution to neck pain is not stretching harder, but breathing better.

Neck pain isn’t always just about muscles and posture. In fact, the way you breathe can play a surprising role in how your neck feels day to day. Many people breathe from their chest and neck mu

Neck pain that travels down your arm? That is not random.

When neck pain radiates into the shoulder, arm, or even the hand, it often points to nerve involvement in the cervical spine.

Common causes include:
• A bulging or herniated cervical disc pressing on a nerve
• Cervical spinal stenosis, where narrowing puts pressure on nerves
• Cervical radiculopathy from an irritated or pinched nerve root
• Degenerative changes in the neck, also known as cervical spondylosis

The key thing to know? Radiating pain does not mean you are broken. It means something needs the right attention and care.

If your neck pain is traveling, do not ignore it. Early, targeted treatment can make a big difference.

Neck pain that appears at rest often has real, treatable causes, including posture habits, muscle guarding, joint irritation, or nervous system sensitivity.

This blog breaks down:
• Why neck pain can show up when you are not moving
• What it may be telling you about your body
• Evidence-based solutions that actually work
