Not every negative thought will carry the same weight in your mind, and it's important to know when self-soothing is the best option or when you should seek help externally.

Intrusive thoughts and impulsive thoughts can often feel similar in the moment, but they come from very different places:

πŸ‘‰ Impulsive thoughts push you to act quickly, sometimes without thinking things through
πŸ‘‰ Acting on impulses can have negative consequences
πŸ‘‰ Intrusive thoughts are unwanted & often upsetting, stemming from your fears
πŸ‘‰ Acting on intrusive thoughts can lead to compulsive, sometimes dangerous behaviors in an attempt to self-soothe

Neither of these thoughts are pleasant, but they aren't the same.

And confusing the two can lead to unnecessary guilt, shame, or missed opportunities to get support.

Understanding the difference now could be your first step in healing. πŸ’™

Are you feeling the urge to fix everything right now? To respond, decide, or move on before your feelings even have time to land?

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is... pause.

Not to avoid β€” but to sit with it.
Sit with the discomfort.
Sit with the questions.
Sit with the ache or the confusion β€” without rushing to solve it.

This gives your mind time to process & your body space to regulate. It helps you respond instead of react. It teaches you to trust that clarity often follows stillness.

You don’t need to have it all figured out today.
You just need to give yourself enough presence to hear what’s really going on underneath.

If you’re struggling to sit with the hard stuff, you don’t have to do it alone. We’re here to help. 🀍

Want to support someone after trauma? Here's how to show up in ways that can help & provide comfort...

πŸ”Ή Start simple:
Text something like "Thinking of you today. How are you really doing?" Then wait for their actual answer – not just "I'm fine."

πŸ”Ή Be specific with offers:
Instead of "Let me know if you need anything," try "I'm making dinner tonight – can I bring you some?" or "I have tomorrow morning free – want help with anything?"

πŸ”Ή Follow their lead:
Some people want to talk about what happened. Others need distraction. Some want company, others need solitude. Ask what feels most helpful right now.

πŸ”Ή Check in regularly:
Trauma doesn't follow our timelines. Set reminders to reach out weekly, not just in the immediate aftermath.
Know your limits:

If they're expressing thoughts of self-harm, having severe anxiety, or seem unable to function – help them connect with professional support.

Your love and consistency can be incredibly healing. But sometimes trauma needs more than what friends + family can provide.

Our team is here if you or someone you care about needs professional support during this recovery process. We're thinking of you all every day. πŸ’™

Even with a busy day, full calendar or nonstop responsibilities...

Add this to your to-do list: Something just for you.

Self-care doesn’t have to be big or fancy β€” It just has to be intentional. Even a few minutes can make a big difference.

Need help making space for yourself? We’re here to support you. 🀍

If you've been glued to flood coverage & feeling emotionally drained, that's your brain trying to process community pain.

Secondary trauma happens when we absorb others' traumatic experiences through stories, images, and constant updates. And your body doesn't always distinguish between what's happening to you versus what you're witnessing.

Signs it might be affecting you:

πŸ’™ Can't stop checking for updates
πŸ’™ Feeling anxious or depressed after watching news
πŸ’™ Having trouble sleeping or concentrating
πŸ’™ Feeling guilty when you're not consuming flood coverage

Your compassion is beautiful. But drowning in information doesn't help anyone – including those who need your support most.

It's okay to step back and find your footing again. Take the break you need.

And if the overwhelm becomes too much to handle alone, our team is here to help you process these feelings.
