Dr. Sonam Patel, O.D.
Dr. Sonam Patel grew up in Shelby, North Carolina. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a Minor in Business Administration from the North Carolina State University in 2009. She later moved to Houston, Texas to attend the University of Houston College of Optometry where she earned her Doctor of Optometry in 2013. During her time at the college Dr. Patel was a student instructor for ocular anatomy for the Texas Optometry Career Opportunities Program (TEXOCOP) and teacher’s assistant for the first year clinical procedures laboratory.
During her clinical rotations, Dr. Patel received extensive training in managing various ocular pathologies such as dry eyes, glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathies and macular degeneration. She was also able to directly observe multiple surgical procedures and co-manage cataract and LASIK patients. In addition to primary vision care, Dr. Patel has a passion for specialty contact lens fitting.
Dr. Patel is an active member of the Northeast Texas Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. During her spare time she enjoys cooking, shopping, traveling and trying out new restaurants with her family, friends and husband Dr. Shah. Dr. Patel is fluent in Gujarati, Hindi and Spanish.
Dr. Pankil Shah, O.D.
Dr. Pankil Shah has been a native of Texas since 2001. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Texas A&M University in 2008. He earned his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2013 graduating Magna Cum Laude. During his time at the University of Houston College of Optometry, Dr. Shah was awarded numerous clinical letters of excellence for outstanding performance in all areas of clinical care. Dr. Shah was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society all four years of optometry school.
Dr. Shah has extensive experience in ocular disease as well as a strong background in primary care optometry and specialty contact lens fits. During his clinical internships, he trained in the treatment and management of glaucoma, retinopathy associated with systemic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, and anterior and posterior segment diseases. He also participated in the co-management of cataract surgery and various refractive procedures.
Dr. Shah is an active member of the Northeast Texas Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. During his spare time he enjoys watching sports, traveling, and spending time with his family, friends and wife Dr. Patel. Dr. Shah is fluent in Gujarati, Hindi and Spanish.
