My journey with the Trager Approach®

Introduction: 1997 I took an Intro to Trager at my massage school for CE credit.

Level 1: Because I was intrigued about how playful and fun the work is, I took Level 1 the following year.

Level 2: The work is still playful and fun and I want to learn more. I catch the Trager bug.

Level 3: The work is playful, fun, I got the Trager bug, and I'm starting to enjoy being immersed in the Trager Ocean of pleasantness during the classes.

Certification: In 2000 I earn my certification to officially practice fun and playfulness with clients.

Continuing the Trager Education: I keep taking Trager classes to learn more and be immersed in the Trager vibe during the training weekends. Going on Trager retreats for CEs is great!

Mentastics: "They make me" take a three day Trager Mentastics class and it finally dawns on me that Mentastics is an inside job!

Another AHA Experience: About 14 years into playful, fun Trager work I get to observe incredible results in real time and I realize how powerful this work actually is.

Intro Workshop Leader: After realizing how powerful this playful and fun work really is I decide to become a Trager Introductory Workshop Leader to spread the word.

Tutor: After about five years of having fun and playing with Trager Principles in the Intros I decide it's time to become a tutor.

Trager Anatomy: As a tutor and teacher I need to know what Trager Anatomy is all about and I take the class. I experience a new way of looking at human anatomy and learn a new Reflex Response "technique" that is helpful in many different ways.

Trager Instructor Trainee: Bill Scholl is now teaching in Switzerland and we dearly need a local Trager Instructor. I'm ready for this new journey!

Thank you Carolyn Scott Naile, Bobbie Nehman and Madeleine Terri, Bill Scholl, the Trager community, my Trager Tutors, Kate Rose, Sunset Retreat, Judy Fasone, Deane Juhan, and last but definitely not least, thank you, all Trager Intro Participants of the past 10 years and ongoing, you are the best teachers!

Exploring the TRAGER® Principle of Teaching Softness to the Tissue.

I invite you to play with the following basic TRAGER® Principle:

"The tighter and harder the tissue, the lighter and softer the practitioner works to encourage change, until the messages of lightness and softness are picked up by the receiver and the tissue responds by loosening and softening."
(Milton Trager; Moving Medicine, Jack Liskin)

Just like little kids, muscles learn by example. They integrate new information faster when the lesson is playful and fun.
We all know that telling a client to relax is usually ineffective. The tissue does not know what the word "relax" means. By using soft, full hands we "show" the tissue what soft and relaxed means.

Sit in a position that allows your own body to relax and feel comfortable and connect to the ground and the stars. With soft, relaxed hands gently cradle the neck, and go within until you "see" the tissue. Allow yourself to just hang out, be there, reassure the tissue that you are there for it, that it is safe to let go: "I got you". The tissue understands you. Give yourself time to feel the change, feel the muscles turning into "mush" in your hands.
Allow time for the message to travel from your mind through your body into the receiver's body and into their mind. The response will travel from their mind into their body and back trough your body into your mind. Your body will know when you are there, trust your intuition.
