There is 1 benefit no one thinks of when it comes to home health…do you think you know what it is?

It’s the fact that your loved ones get a dedicated team of individuals!

Nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, social workers and aides make up the home health care team, with oversight by a physician. Each team member is carefully screened and trained. Patients can see these professionals without having to go to a doctor’s office, rehabilitation facility or hospital.

This way they receive personalized care and grow relationships with their caretakers so they are comfortable receiving care.

Head to our website, send us an email or call us to start a conversation today to see how your loved ones can benefit from home health.

Many of our patients and family members wonder what makes Occupational Therapy different from Physical Therapy.

Today we are here to clarify the difference!
Occupational therapists usually do not treat a patient’s injury using physical therapy techniques but rather assist with optimizing independence and improving the client’s ability to accomplish daily tasks and activities after sustaining an injury, or in any situation of physical impairment.

Some of Occupational Therapy Services include:
Increase in Independence with Bathing, Dressing, Toileting,
Preparing Meals, and Other Activities of Daily Living
Home Safety Evaluation and Training
Home Medical Equipment Referral

An Occupational Therapist will perform an on-site assessment of the patient’s home environment.

With this assessment, the occupational therapist can offer recommendations on how to suitably adapt to the places you spend the most time, to allow for a better quality of life.

Our occupational therapists at Renew Home Health are trained to modify physical environments, in addition to training patients to use assistive equipment.

Combined, the goal is to increase overall independence.

During the first half of the twentieth century, home health nursing in the United States was largely provided by visiting nurse associations and nursing divisions of governmental health agencies. These organizational structures mostly remained stable until the mid-1960s, when Medicare legislation was passed. Then, home care services, as a benefit provided by Medicare to elderly clients, were used more frequently, especially after reductions of in-hospital lengths of stay.

Did you know Medicare covers home health at 100%?

It’s true. There is no out-of-pocket cost. If you have a Medicare replacement or private insurance policy, you will need to refer to that policy for your out-of-pocket cost. Many of these types of policies also require preauthorization. While the admitting nurse will attempt to give you an accurate estimate of what services you will receive, the insurance companies do not always agree with the nurse/physician’s recommendations for your care. In those cases, the agency will do everything we can to provide you with high-quality care within the service limits imposed by your provider. If you request to receive care outside of those service limits, we can provide that care at your cost.

Did you know home health can help prevent avoidable Hospital trips?

It’s true!

Older adults may be able to avoid unnecessary hospital visits by managing their health conditions at home with the proper care. Home health care helps by providing regular monitoring and education. Patients can also benefit from 24/7 access to a professional they can call if they’re having troublesome symptoms and aren’t sure what to do.

How has home health changed since its origins?

In 1986, the American Nurses Association published new Home Health Nursing Practice Standards, based on the 1973 Community Health Nursing Practice Standards.

Those standards applied both to generalists and specialists in nursing practice in home health and addressed the organization of home health services. Home health nursing has traditionally been considered a generalist practice, with the expectation that the nurse demonstrates competence and flexibility in caring for clients across the age and illness continuum.

Interested in learning how Renew Home Health implements, and improves upon the quality standards put into place in 1986?

The benefits of home health care also extend to family caregivers.

Taking care of sick family members can be grueling, especially when you are trying to balance work with caretaking.

Home health aides can help with bathing, dressing and other daily tasks. This relieves some of the burdens on family caregivers. The home health team can also educate family members about how to provide follow-up care and connect them with helpful resources. This type of support provides peace of mind and protects against caregiver burnout.

Contact our office today to see how our Home Health services can benefit you and your family.
