Hello, friends. We are all in new territory, and it seems like every day brings a new challenge. It's important to me that my clients have the support they need, and so I am responding to the pandemic in the following ways:

First, I am currently still open for in-person sessions. I am working with the administration at Mercantile Plaza, who are keeping me up-to-date on any reported cases in the building; so far there have been none. Also, since I mostly see clients one-on-one, it is easy to manage social distancing in my office.

For clients who prefer long-distance therapy, however, I am providing teletherapy through phone calls or the Doxy.me website, which is designed for the privacy that healthcare demands.

Everyone is impacted by this situation in their own unique way, and so I am trying to be as flexible as I can while maintaining my practice. I feel like this balance is important so that anyone who needs support can find it while I also keep everyone's safety in mind.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions!

Learning to ask for what you need from your therapist is indispensable, however long you’ve been going to therapy.

This is a really interesting article about the effects of sleep deprivation in teenagers. I'd recommend it to any parents of adolescents! It has very detailed and useful information.

Could later school start times be the solution for healthier, happier students? An ever-growing body of research says yes.

Play is so important! This article covers why both kids and teenagers need play. I would argue that it's just important for us as adults, too.

But as parents and schools emphasize academics, it's dwindling.

A very interesting article! It can be surprising to learn how our brains start taking shortcuts so early. But it makes sense when you consider how much our brains love patterns: if a situation looks familiar, we tend to respond the same way we did the last time we saw it. It might be helpful to encourage a child to reflect on HOW they came to a decision, and to ask them what some other options might be that are different than what they usually do.

A new study has found that in some ways, the older you get the worse your decision making becomes.

This is a nice simple list with some good information in it!

Let me start this post with some questions for you: When your child displays a behavior that is worrisome, what do you do? When your child’s teacher or school tells you she’s worried about your child’s academic perfomance, what do you...

Very important information!

Tantrums and sensory meltdowns may look alike, but have very different causes. Learn the difference between these two types of outbursts.

I meet too many kids who define success by what they get, instead of how they grow. That starts with us. Kids who have a sense of who they are tend to weather the storms of life much better.

This is one of those quotes that truly affected my parenting perspective. It sits perfectly in line with guiding our children, moment-by-moment, rather than 'raising' them into someone. They already are someone. Now.

I love the heartbeat of this article: our kids (and us!) need space to be human and share their humanity with us. But once you're tangled up in the web of busyness, it can be hard to get out. I'll be honest: I'm still working on this one myself. But if you find yourself looking for someone to go on that journey with you, you're welcome to give me a call!

Our overscheduled lives leave little time for contemplation and reflection. How do we enable each other to pause and reflect together and ask how our hearts are doing?
