As much as we love spending time outdoors and with animals, a few germs can tag along too— and sometimes spread to you.

These are called zoonotic diseases, and they’re actually pretty common in the U.S. Most cases are mild and preventable with good hygiene, safe animal handling, and simple prevention strategies.

A few you might recognize here in Texas:
🦠 West Nile Virus (mosquito-borne)
🦠 Bird Flu (avian influenza)
🦠 Lyme Disease (tick-borne)
🦠 Rabies (from infected animal bites)

Tarrant County Public Health proudly celebrates Dr. Alisha Jain, the first medical resident to complete the new Public Health Leadership Training rotation.

Over four weeks, Dr. Jain engaged with each division, gaining firsthand insight into how our teams collaborate to protect and promote health across the county. We’re grateful to our local health partners for making this opportunity possible, and to our dedicated staff for sharing their time, expertise, and passion for public health.

Together, we’re investing in the next generation of healthcare leaders, and building a stronger future for public health.
