African Proverb (Ghana) : Do not let what you cannot do keep you from doing what you can do.
MEANING: There is a quiet strength in people who choose to build with what they have rather than complain about what they lack. This proverb speaks directly to that mindset. It reminds us that progress is not determined by how perfect our circumstances are, but by how well we use what is already in our hands.
It is easy to become fixated on limitations like what we don’t have, what we can’t do, or where we fall short compared to others. But limitation, when given too much attention, becomes a barrier that exists more in the mind than in reality. Ability, on the other hand, is where growth begins. Even the smallest skill, when focused on and developed, can open doors that once seemed impossible.
History and everyday life are full of people who succeeded not because they had everything, but because they maximized something. They took one strength, one opportunity, one idea—and gave it their full attention. Over time, that focus transformed their situation.
This proverb also teaches resilience. It shifts your perspective from deficiency to possibility. Instead of asking, “What am I missing?” it invites you to ask, “What can I do with what I have?” That question alone changes everything. Be INTENTIONAL!
