My friend Joshua Mazur has passed away heroically and with dignity at the hands of brutal cancer. April Mazur, Josh’s wife, has been an absolute angel. I’ve never seen anything like it. Their son Maverick has gotten through this so far by leaning on the best of his mom and dad. Please consider donating something, anything. If you’re unable, please, please, share with someone who might.

October 2024. It’s the update everyone wished would never actually come but i… Tori Hyde needs your support for Support the Mazurs as they fight colon cancer.

At the end of 2020 I asked my clients a question. “What advice would you give now, to your younger self then?” I only questioned clients who I have been working with for at least the entire year, and clients who have been working at least as intensively but for a shorter duration. In other…

If you truly saw yourself as you actually are, your being, you’d be so blindsided with amazement, wonder, uniqueness, confidence, and peace that you would immediately be looking around for that magical, inexplicable force that clearly created you peace by piece. You certainly wouldn’t feel random, purposeless, and unloved… ever.

Counselor & Psychotherapist Rant #1

Whatever you have to be upset about. Whatever you attribute your pain and suffering to. Whatever is bothering you. Whatever or whoever you were wronged by or hurt by… IT’S VALID! Not only is it valid, it’s powerful, and not only is it valid and powerful, it’s also very meaningful to me. I know there is a 24 hour inculcation of everybody else’s suffering loudly on display everywhere you look and in places you don’t, ranging from the wrong tone of a genuine “thank you” to a raging and horrific tragedy, but you matter, your experiences and feelings matter. You do not have to preface your complaints in order to invalidate yourself. We all do it to some extent, but let’s stop… Truth is always true, or it isn’t true. We can all suffer and be wronged at the same time. Your healing is about you, and it isn’t conditional. I’m seeing a huge upswing in this among my clients. CLIENT: “Listen, I know I have no right to complain given what’s been going on in the news, but I lost my job today and I haven’t told anybody.” ME: “Well you’ve told me and that’s a big deal. I’d like to check your language there as well - that part where you said you have no right to complain, let’s remove that part and repeat what you said. That way it becomes more accurate, authentic, and deeply personal, and you are worth that. Good job, doesn’t the room feel a bit lighter now.” You can do this in your life too. When you hear someone doing that, just say “hey you don’t have to say say all that, I just want to hear about you.”

“As an individual who both travels constantly for work, and has a lot of issues opening up or starting over, the use of secure communication for therapy in the form of messaging, apps, and platforms like Jeremy’s, has been life changing for me. I have been seen by several therapists over the course of my life for various issues, but I believe this way has been the most beneficial for me. I am able to practice and work on my mental health without the guilt of missing appointments because of travel, and I am able to share my thoughts and feelings as they occur, instead of having to wait a week or even a month to discuss them. This type of therapy also allows me to build a rapport with a licensed clinician rather than restart every time I move, which means having to unpack and discuss my trauma all over again. This method of therapy also allows me to still have contact without the fear of catching or transmitting COVID-19. It was life saving in that my therapist would match how I sent messages, which prevented my abuser from gaining access to our messages, and has acted as a place to physically keep records of what’s happened, as opposed to exclusively spoken word. While some may prefer a traditional experience, this has been more beneficial to me than any other form I have encountered.”

“I looked through therapists on Talkspace and found Jeremy on that platform originally. He has been my first male therapist, I’ve only had women before this. I wanted to have an alternative perspective that might challenge the way I thought about events that happened to me in life. I also was very serious about the level of control exerted onto me as a patient in therapy, I had therapists before that told me what I should and should not do rather than provided good counsel and guidance. I got exactly that. He challenges certain thought patterns I have, he has never told me what I should do with my life, he guided me to stand on my own two feet rather than made me dependent on him as a therapist. This is why he is still my therapist even when we migrated off of the Talkspace platform, he got me through some dark times but also didn’t go easy on me. He has never gone easy on me but has always approached with kindness and respect and consideration.

I went from not having a family at all to having the strength to form my own family for the first time in my life. I am engaged and even have a baby on the way now. This all happened while he has been my therapist. It is absolutely remarkable what a change in mindset can do and that is what Jeremy worked with me on. Personal sovereignty. Also, there is nothing wrong with having a very small circle of friends but I was a remote worker in IT without any female friends (zero) that were local to me. He worked with me to overcome that so I found a whole group of girls I chill with in my area now. So I have that now too. I didn’t have that before Jeremy and now I do. He worked with me too on family of origin dependency I had and now that umbilical cord is cut. It’s been unbelievable. I also had work problems in that I was being genuinely bullied at work. I was flabbergasted and shocked by it because I had only known respect in the workplace, I never had known people that literally hoped for me to fail and worked to undermine me verbally, actively and directly in my face. Jeremy got me through those times and helped me have a healthy perspective on it. Due to Jeremy helping me see this, I took actions which led me to being back in contact with my present-day fiancé. I also got the courage to buy my first home due to him helping me resolve the family of origin dependencies I had. It’s all this big microcosm of - all linked together - that all occurred due to the healthy guidance that Jeremy has provided to me as a counselor. I would recommend him as a therapist to anyone looking to really work on themselves and improve their life. I honestly cannot thank him enough and tell him he should charge me more monthly.”
