🤔Survivor or victim?
Victim seems fitting because it describes what was done. But at some point, you make a powerful shift and no long see yourself as a victim, but a survivor.
📌“Victim” focuses on what happened.
📌“Survivor” honors what you’ve done with what happened. It acknowledges the pain, but it also recognizes strength, resilience, and courage.
Calling yourself a survivor is a reminder that you’re not defined by what someone else did to you. You are still here. You are healing. You are growing. You are more than what you endured.
Being a survivor doesn’t mean the pain is gone or that the trauma didn’t affect you deeply. It simply means you refuse to let it have the final say over your life. It means you’re choosing to move forward with hope, even when it’s hard.
If you’ve experienced abuse, sexual assault, or any kind of trauma your story is valid no matter what word you choose. However, survivor feels like a declaration of victory, strength, and forward movement.
📌You are stronger than you know.
📌Your healing matters.
📌Your story matters.
