About Me
Hi! My name is Kristin. I am a busy mom of 3, wife to my best friend & college sweetheart, and a preschool teacher. As you can imagine, our busy kid-filled lifestyle is full of germs! I began researching the benefits of elderberries several years ago on a search to naturally boost my family’s immune system. I wanted to add something to our normal wellness routine that would really help to diminish the amount of time we spent sick. I began buying organic elderberry syrup from a local health food store and what I found is that it is very expensive for a small amount of syrup that my kids fought me on taking. It is very thick and my kids didn’t love it. The store brands are also full of additives and preservatives that I would rather not give to my family so I decided to make my own. You can rest assured it is made with the highest quality organic ingredients. It has taken me a while to develop the perfect recipe but we really like what we have created and we hope you will too!
Why elderberries? Elderberries have become increasingly popular over the last few years and for good reason. They are especially well-known for fighting flu and other respiratory viruses. There are clinical studies proving the effects of taking elderberry syrup when fighting the flu - they are shown to decrease the severity of symptoms and shorten the duration by 4 days. They also help bulk up the immune system to avoid sickness altogether. Last season, the flu was running rampant at my kids elementary school. My oldest 2 kids came down with the flu but they ONLY HAD SYMPTOMS FOR 1.5 DAYS. Literally. They were over it so quick and it never got bad. I was the only one taking care of them and I never got it and neither did their other sibling, who is a toddler so everything goes in her mouth!
If you don’t care about HOW and WHY ELDERBERRY works, you can skip this paragraph. But for those who care, here’s the skinny of it. Elderberries are one of the top antiviral herbs in the world. They are a powerful antioxidant. Elderberries are a rich source of vitamins A and C, which are crucial in helping the body maintain optimal health. Plus, the bioflavonoids in elderberry syrup boost the body's immune system by increasing antioxidant levels. Elderberries can protect against the effects of autoimmune disorders. They provide dietary fiber and increase the health of the gastrointestinal system. Elderberries improve heart health too! The high fiber levels in elderberries help eliminate excess cholesterol from the system and make room for HDL (good) cholesterol that the body needs. This can help eliminate the chances of developing atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular issues. The high level of potassium in elderberries also protects the heart by relaxing the tension of blood vessels and arteries. As a vasodilator, potassium can significantly reduce blood pressure and keep your heart healthy! Elderberry syrup helps to improve respiratory health, which makes them ideal for fighting the flu and other respiratory illnesses. When it comes to clearing up a sore throat, a cough, cold, bronchitis, flu, or any other issues that affect your respiratory system, elderberries might be your best choice. Like many cough syrups, elderberry syrup contains active ingredients (bioflavonoids like anthocyanins, to be exact) that can soothe inflammation and irritation. The syrup also acts as an expectorant and clear out phlegm that can trap foreign agents in your glands. Elderberry juice is even recommended for people with asthma (like my kids!). In addition to being a powerful immunity booster, the antioxidants in elderberries work directly on the pancreas to regulate insulin and glucose levels. They help improve bone health and elderberry makes its way into a lot of cosmetic applications, primarily because the bioflavonoids in elderberries can boost your skin health. The antioxidant activity, combined with its significant levels of vitamin A, make elderberries perfect for preventing or lessening wrinkles, helping age spots to fade, and generally improving the glow and tone of your body’s largest and most visible organ!
I have added some additional super herbs to my recipe that make it even more powerful. With the addition of bilberries, rosehips, dried hibiscus flower petals, cinnamon, and cloves - you are getting a truly amazing product with MANY health benefits. Bilberries alone are proven to help prevent several different types of cancer, protect against liver damage, maintain good eye health, protect the kidneys against infection and damage, and helps to cure diarrhea, indigestion, and nausea! Since taking elderberry syrup, we have noticed a significant change in our family’s health. We are sick less, and when we do get sick, we get over it quicker and it doesn’t spread through the whole family. If I’m starting to feel a sore throat coming on, we start taking this syrup and the sore throat goes away. We have also seen in our family how this syrup effectively stops the spread of the stomach bug (my most dreaded common childhood illness!). We pray it is a blessing to your family like it has been to ours!
