We’ve got a new Beth update!

Her latest adventure? Mystic, Connecticut! She made the move (and got snowed in by a blizzard) to an 18th-century cottage in Mystic, living her dream: close to her daughter in a charming seaside town that looks straight out of a Hallmark movie - which it is. Hallmark’s 2023 movie Mystic Christmas was actually filmed there!

Even while settling in, she’s making sure her clients feel seen, near or far. Beth is now licensed in TX and CT, seeing clients in both states. And telehealth? Don’t worry—your session will have the same connection, same depth, no matter the distance. You don’t have to live nearby to work with a therapist who gets you.

Bonus: If you’re outside TX or CT, Beth also offers 1:1 Therapeutic Coaching to support you wherever you are. It’s big Beth energy, everywhere you need it.

To keep up with Beth’s adventures (blizzards, coastal life, therapeutic insights), follow here here:

‘Cougar puberty’ (yes, we really just said that) comes with a plot twist no one prepared you for: menopause isn’t just physical. There’s a deeper tension at play. You’ve spent decades proving you’re enough. Now you’re wondering if slowing down means you’ve lost your edge… or finally found your peace.

In the latest Vervewell blog, Heather breaks down how contentment and complacency can look a lot alike - but they’re not the same.

Your mental health isn’t just in your head—it’s in your whole body. At Vervewell, we swear by SHEEN (sleep, hydration, exercise, expression, and nutrition). Hell, we preach it.

Why? Because sleep hits the reset button your brain desperately needs. Water keeps your energy and focus sharp. Moving your body releases stress and lifts your mood. Making or creating gives your feelings a healthy outlet. And good nutrition? That’s the fuel that keeps your brain and body firing for the long haul.

Now add therapy. Suddenly, it’s not just surviving—it’s thriving. Stress doesn’t weigh you down the same way. Mood swings lose their grip. You start feeling like yourself again. Therapy is the spark that makes all those healthy habits actually stick. Everything just clicks.

So remember to take care of yourself from every angle - mind, body, and soul. You’ll feel it. To include therapy in your routine, get in touch. All therapists are accepting new clients, in-office and via telehealth.

Trauma can "freeze" us in our worst moments, leaving us stuck in a loop of old reactions and unprocessed pain. EMDR can be a powerful way to finally break that cycle.

By using bilateral processing (gentle left-to-right stimulation like eye movements or taps), EMDR takes the sting out of traumatic memories. It helps your brain finally file those moments away so they don't feel so loud and overwhelming today. Over time, the triggers fade, and you start feeling more grounded and in control.

If you’re ready to get those stuck memories moving again, Blake is a fantastic resource to have in your corner. He specializes in EMDR and is currently accepting new clients.

How often should you actually show up for therapy? Honestly, it’s not one-size-fits-all. It really comes down to what you need right now.

Most people start weekly to get some momentum going. Once things feel more manageable, you might switch to every other week. If life gets extra heavy, you can always scale up. The magic happens in the consistency; that’s how new habits actually stick.

If you’re unsure what pace fits your life, the therapists at Vervewell can help you figure it out as you go. We’re currently accepting new clients for both in-office and virtual sessions all across Texas.

She is accepting new clients and offers a free 15-minute consultation to get started. To learn more about her, visit: https://vervewell.org/our-team/casye-leray/

Call someone a narcissist and watch the room tense up.

The word has become cultural shorthand for the worst kinds of people. But psychology has always meant something more nuanced.

A healthy dose of narcissism is what allows a person to take up space in their own life. Without it, people can spend years being agreeable, reliable, and slowly disappearing behind everyone else’s needs.

Blake’s newest blog explores the kind of narcissism that actually makes relationships, and life, healthier.

Have mental health terms become weaponized?

“Gaslighting.” “Trauma.” “Narcissist.” “Triggered.”

These words began as clinical language for real psychological experiences. But when everything is trauma and everyone is a narcissist, the language loses its meaning. Worse, it keeps us stuck in labels instead of moving us toward growth.

Mental health terms are tools, not verdicts. They should help you recognize patterns, but they aren't meant to define your identity or excuse harmful behavior. Real wellness isn't about having the right vocabulary; it’s about the actual effort you put in.

That means going to therapy and practicing deep reflection. It requires honest conversations where you identify patterns and consciously change habits. This process is messy and slow, but that’s where change actually happens.

At Vervewell, we believe language can open the door—but therapy helps you walk through it. We’re here to help you reconnect with yourself and build a life that feels grounded.

If you're ready to look past the labels and find a path that feels right to you, DM us or visit https://vervewell.org/contact/

A lot of men don’t feel “sad” when they’re depressed.

They feel irritated, or tired, or checked out. They stay busy so they don’t have to think. They pull away and don’t really know why.

And they tell themselves, “I’m fine. Just stressed.”

Sometimes that’s true. Sometimes it’s not.

Jason works with men who are trying to understand what they’re carrying and find a healthier way forward. Drawing from both his clinical training and his own lived experience, he helps men navigate depression, anxiety, ADHD, and relationship challenges.

If something feels off, it’s worth paying attention to. Jason offers a free 15-minute consultation to get started. Learn more and schedule here: https://vervewell.org/our-team/jason-leito/

We’re excited to welcome Aria Loveless-Green to Vervewell as our newest student intern! Currently completing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, she will work with clients around life transitions, identity exploration, and trauma.

As a student intern, Aria uses existential therapy and ACT to help clients reconnect with their truest selves. When she’s not in the clinic, Aria is usually outdoors—likely with a camera in hand while hiking or kayaking. On her off days, she trades the trail for a cozy book, a deep-dive into Wikipedia, or some quality time with her cat, Amity.

Her journey into counseling has been a deeply personal one. You can read her full story here: https://vervewell.org/our-team/aria-loveless-green/

Aria will be with us through May as an intern and will then continue at Vervewell as an LPC Associate under Beth’s supervision.

Friends offer comfort: They are great at listening, validating, and empathizing. They care deeply and want to help.

Therapists offer structure: Therapists are trained to spot patterns, underlying themes, and blind spots that are hard to see from the inside.

Friends respond personally: Friends share opinions, experiences, and advice based on their own lives and biases.

Therapists respond intentionally: They use evidence-based approaches, clinical training, and intentional questions to help clients think, feel, and respond differently.

Friends are in the story: Friends are part of someone’s life and relationships, which can make conversations emotional, protective, or filtered.

Therapists are neutral: Therapists aren’t in the client’s life. That neutrality creates space for honesty, clarity, and growth without consequences in personal relationships.

Friends help you feel better: Venting often brings relief in the moment.

Therapy helps you get better: Therapy focuses on long-term change - patterns, coping strategies, relationships, and identity.

Both friends and therapy play important roles. For those ready to move beyond venting, Vervewell’s team of experienced therapists is here to help. Schedule a consultation to see if working together feels like a good fit. https://vervewell.org/
