MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT HYPNOSIS
In the movies, hypnosis is often portrayed as a control tactic — to get people to commit crimes or fall in love, for instance...but the truth is "people experiencing hypnosis REMAIN IN CONTROL and able to make choices and respond appropriately, free to ACCEPT or REJECT any suggestions given".
Hypnotists do not have special powers. Hypnosis is a common phenomenon in all human beings. We all experience hypnotic phenomena naturally every day.
Hypnosis does not work miracles but it is a "genuine, honest and earnest discipline of learning and effort." That said, it is often very effective at assisting people to make the significant and lasting changes they wish to make."

Milton H. Erickson was a psychiatrist who reimagined traditional theories and models of therapy. He moved therapy away from the theory-driven, lengthy, and often burdensome psychotherapy practices to more direct and solution-focused. He also was a pioneer in the development of clinical hypnosis and advanced hypnotic techniques. In fact, we also owe a debt to Milton Erickson for removing much of the stigma that has surrounded hypnosis as a legitimate form of therapy.
