In honor of the famous Festival of San Fermín, July’s Taste of Atria lunch transported residents to Spain! The flavorful menu featured beef and cheese empanadas, chicken paella with roast vegetables and caramel flan. Residents and their friends savored the experience, which was complemented by a screening of the period piece Carmen.

Meet Jim, one of our incredible Resident Ambassadors! 🌟

Known for his welcoming demeanor and incredible involvement in all he can be, Jim loves welcoming new neighbors, helping others feel at home and building meaningful connections.

He is a proud member of almost all of our clubs and councils; Resident Ambassadors, Resident Council, Movie Club, Disscussion Groups and more!

Jim will always say "This is such a great experience to live in a community like this one! So many things to do and the staff is amazing!"

Sandy has always had a way with words.

A longtime resident of Atria Tamalpais Creek, she spent years writing for the San Rafael Daily Independent Journal, now the Marin Independent Journal, where her columns on motherhood and raising strong, independent kids resonated with readers across generations.

These days, Sandy brings that same thoughtful spirit to life in her community. She leads the garden club with enthusiasm, constantly dreaming up creative nature projects and fun outings. She's also a faithful reader of the Independent Journal and sparks great conversation during the community's news discussion groups, helping everyone stay engaged with the world around them.

Our Chef Showdown “sweets” event brought the heat – and plenty of sugar!

Residents, guests and even a panel of celebrity judges watched as our chefs went spatula-to-spatula with residents’ cherished dessert recipes in a live cooking competition. From secret family ingredients to chef-inspired twists, everyone had the chance to taste and vote for their favorite version of each sweet treat.

“Painting was always like breathing. It had to be,” says Elaine, a resident at Atria Cutter Mill whose lifelong love of art began with her father’s encouragement and a coloring book.

Though she never sold her work – “My paintings felt like children,” she says – Elaine’s legacy lives on through the pieces saved and beloved by her family.

With a master’s in fine art, memories of opera singing and a story as vibrant as her canvases, Elaine continues to inspire.

Her advice? “If you’re following your passion, you’re doing the best thing in the world. Be yourself.”

Residents took a turn on the court and participated in our community's first ping pong tournament- Wimblepong- in partnership with Diane, our occupational therapist from EmpowerME. Diane helped us turn simple rallies into powerful wellness moves, from quick volleys that boost hand-eye coordination to spins that sneak in some cardio. Congratulations to Jenesis, one of this year’s recipients of the Ronnie Boatman Scholarship! 🎓

Jenesis is the daughter of Anthony, a Resident Services Assistant in the memory care neighborhood at Atria Park of Lafayette. A high school student body president with perfect attendance and a passion for dance, Jenesis credits her father’s unwavering support for helping her reach this milestone. In the fall, she’ll attend Cal Poly Pomona to study environmental sciences. “This scholarship will enable me to pursue my dream,” she shares.

The Boatman Scholarship honors the legacy of beloved Atria leader Ronnie Boatman and has awarded nearly $800,000 to help the children and legal dependents of Atria employees pursue higher education.

The Chef Showdown was an exciting and high-stakes cooking competition that brought together culinary talent and creative flair. Our Sous Chef Tucker went head-to-head with guest Chef Danny Murcia, the chef at Balboa Café in San Francisco and the grandson of one of our residents. The two lead a team consisting of two directors to craft a three-course meal that included an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. The menu was presented to a panel of judges consisting of residents, Executive Director Freddie Fullon, and the Mayor of Foster City, Stacy Jimenez. The competition was fierce, with each team showcasing unique flavors, technical skill, and presentation. After intense deliberation and close scoring, the title of champion was proudly awarded to Chef Tucker and his team, whose culinary leadership and creativity brought his team to a victory.

Today at Atria at Foster Square, we celebrated the Fourth of July with a full day of patriotic fun, community connection, and summertime joy! 🇺🇸

We kicked off the morning at the Foster City Lagoon with the Rotary Club’s delicious Pancake Breakfast, followed by the festive Family & Dog Parade and a live country band performance. Back at the community, residents enjoyed a tasty lunch, the smooth sounds of a live jazz band, and a creative afternoon of beautiful, festive crafts. 🎶🐾🥞

The Fourth of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, a pivotal moment in American history that marks the birth of our nation and celebrates the values of freedom and unity.

We embraced the timeless tradition of crafting flower crowns—each one a reflection of joy, renewal, and the vibrant spirit of summer.

Residents of Foster Square trekked to the city to attend the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus Concert, a day of music that held deep personal meaning for the community. We came together to support Bernie, who's served Foster Square as a concierge, an Engage Life Program Instructor, and most recently a Life Guidance Program Specialist. His warmth, compassion, and dedication to the residents has touched countless lives.

This concert also brought everyone together in solidarity with the Transgender and Non-Binary community. For many, the concert was a celebration of inclusion, resilience, and the power of music to bring people together. Thank you, Bernie, for sharing your talents and for reminding us that community is built through kindness and the willingness to show up for one another.

As we continue to celebrate Pride Month, Life Guidance residents created vibrant rainbow macramé decorations, adding color and creativity to the community. The activity offered a fun and meaningful way for participants to express their support for LGBTQ+ rights while learning a new craft. Laughter, conversation, and collaboration filled the space as we tied knots and chose colorful cords to reflect the iconic Pride rainbow. Celebrating Juneteenth at Atria at Foster Square ✨

Today, we honored Juneteenth, a powerful day in history marking the end of slavery in the U.S., and a celebration of freedom, culture, and unity.

We started the day with a meaningful seminar by Onye, who shared the rich traditions of African heritage and showed us the art of drumming—we even got to play some traditional African drums! 🪘

We ended with a beautiful and moving call and response led by Angela, bringing our community together in rhythm and reflection.

🚤 Smooth Sailing at Atria at Foster City! ⛵️
We were honored to host the Foster City Yacht Club for their monthly meeting right here in our community! The evening began with a warm welcome and an engaging tour led by our Executive Director, Freddie. The Yacht Club then gathered in our beautiful event space for their meeting — with a special guest in attendance, the Mayor of Foster City!

The night concluded with a heartfelt birthday celebration of our very own resident, Max, who has been a proud Yacht Club member for many years. It was a wonderful evening of community, connection, and camaraderie.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Atria at Foster Square! 🤠💙

Today, we honored the amazing dads in our community with a western-themed Father’s Day lunch—and it was a celebration to remember! We served up tomahawk steaks, fried chicken, and other classic western favorites that had everyone going back for seconds.

Our gentlemen enjoyed a relaxing visit with an on-site barber, posed for fun photos at our saloon movie set, and tapped their boots to some fantastic live music.

A huge shout-out to the incredible fathers who call our community home—thank you for your wisdom, strength, and stories. You make Atria a special place.
