Y'all, I've had to replace two HVACs in the last month. One was completely covered in mold, both inside and outside the unit ๐คข Mold exposure throws me into an flare, so preventing this from happening again was a priority. As an Indiana native, I've had to learn a lot about how to survive the humidity. Let me share what I've learned.
๐ Temps should always be 75ยฐ or lower. Keep that in mind when you're on vacay.
๐ You might get away with changing your filter every other month in another state, but stick with monthly if you're in Florida.
๐ Don't let your fan constantly circulate. It will worsen humidity and wear out your motor faster.
๐ You're basically guaranteed to grow mold somewhere in your home if your humidity is constantly over 60%. Keeping the temp under 75ยฐ helps, but you may need a dehumidifier.
๐ The inside of your unit is pitch black with constant condensation. Installing an in-unit UV light helps sanitize and prevent mold growth. The bulbs need to be changed every ~2 years.
๐And finally, it may be worth investing in maintenance every 6 months (bc Florida), especially if you have an older unit.
Long time , did I miss anything?!
