One year ago today, I took a leap of faith and launched Mimi’s Choice Care Management. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s not always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding. There is something truly special about getting to know and care for our aging loved ones. I have had the pleasure of linking arms with amazing clients and their families as they navigate the senior healthcare system. My hope is that I can continue to provide the support and guidance families need to make the best decisions for their loved ones.
I have learned so much over the past year both personally and professionally. I have networked with colleagues in our industry-many who I now call friends. Colleges who are on the same mission of supporting our aging population and who I can call on in any crisis situation. For that I am grateful.
One of the things I love most about my business, is getting to talk about my mom every day. She was the best Mimi we could have ever had and I know she’s been pushing me along the way this year. Happy heavenly 69th birthday to the best! Excited for what’s to come in year 2 of Mimi’s Choice 🩷

I recently accompanied my 91 year old client to the eye doctor. She had been complaining of irritation and drainage from her eyes. She was diagnosed with Blepharitis, which is pretty common in older adults. The doctor prescribed eye drops and sent the script electronically to her preferred pharmacy.
24 hours later, my client received a call from the pharmacy stating due to the high cost of the eye drops and her insurance plan, she would be responsible for the $886 deductible. My client was panicked and didn’t know what to do.

As her care manager, it’s my job to advocate for my clients needs. I went back to her provider looking for alternatives that might be more cost effective. There were none. I called multiple pharmacies, large and small hoping to find a solution for her. Finally, after much research we discovered the HealthWell Foundation.

The HealthWell foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to healthcare when health insurance isn’t enough. Through their Disease Grants program, they help fill the financial gap by assisting with co-pays, premiums, deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses. Their mission is to help people all across the county, afford essential treatments and medications.

I was able to assist my client in applying for this program right over the phone. She was approved right away and her eye drops were delivered the next day at no cost to her.

My client was so relieved and her eyes are better already! What may seem like a small victory to me, meant so much to her and her family.

The past few months have been busy at Mimi’s Choice care management! We are so grateful for the opportunity to provide much needed resources and support to our aging population. Below are just a couple of examples of how we are helping our clients and their families:

🌸 coordinated the relocation of a clients dad from his home out of state to a skilled nursing facility closer to family in MA
🌸provided resources and information to a client with Parkinson’s disease. She wanted to develop a plan to age in place at home
🌸guided a client, with no family in the area, through the process of locating, applying and moving into an assisted living facility
🌸provided information to a family regarding low income, group adult foster care and tax credit assisted living options in the cape cod area
🌸referred clients to reputable estate planning attorneys for all elder planning needs
🌸advocated for a client with GBS who is currently in a skilled rehab facility
🌸provided resources for home modification and vetted private home care companies
🌸accompanied a client (whose family is out of state) to her doctor’s appointments and to complete local errands
🌸assisted a family in filing a grievance to the acute care hospital that discharged the client to rehab without notice of observation status.

FOXBOROUGH MEMORY CAFE
The Foxborough Memory Cafe is a welcoming place for individuals, families and friends of those living with memory changes. Join us on Tuesday, Jan.16, and the third Tuesday of each month, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for our Memory Cafe at the Foxborough Senior Center. Join us for live music, come listen, sing along, tap your feet and enjoy. We respectfully ask caregivers to remain with their loved ones during this program.
