๐Ÿ’™ Weโ€™re so excited for this event!

Join your local Ausome community in collaboration with Clinton County EMS and Avon Fire Department for Ausome Safety Day!

This special event was created by our Ausome Indy Moms after a story was shared about one of our nonspeaking Ausome kiddos choking in the car.

We want to help ausome families be prepared for these moments, should they ever occur.

So we created Ausome Safety Day! Join us for safety demonstrations, instructions, resources, meet local firefighters and EMS, and enjoy sensory crafts. This event is designed specifically for our ausome kiddos.

๐Ÿš‘ Today we had a great time participating in Suncrest Elementary Schoolโ€™s Touch-a-Truck event!

Paramedic Justin Boyce and EMT Chase Kieselbach showed the students Medic 3 and all sorts of equipment including our Stryker stretcher, Zoll cardiac monitor and ventilator. As cool as this stuff is to us, the kiddos really just liked like flashing lights and several wanted a turn at driving the ambulance! ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿš‘

๐Ÿฉป๐ŸซLast week all three shifts went through a ventilator refresher course with Zoll Medical.

For the last three years, we have used our ventilators to provide noninvasive and invasive ventilation in the prehospital setting. Anecdotally, we have found great success with the use of BiPAP (noninvasive ventilation) in preventing the need for intubation.

๐Ÿš‘ Each of our 4 paramedic staffed ambulances and the emergency response vehicle have a ventilator!

โ€ผ๏ธStay tuned for an announcement on a tool we just deployed to supplement our noninvasive ventilation care! We are the first EMS service in the United States to use this tool๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿš‘ PATIENT REUNION๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ™Œ

โ€œThank you for getting me back to my momโ€ is what Mikal Simmons said to Clinton County EMS team members during a heartfelt reunion. On August 27th, 2024, 14-year-old Mikal Simmons was involved in a devastating motor vehicle accident that resulted in him being ejected 60 feet from the vehicle. He sustained multiple serious injuries, including a severe traumatic brain injury. Against all odds, Mikal has made remarkable progressโ€”from a time when his survival was uncertain to now speaking and standing with assistance. Mikalโ€™s recovery is a testimony to the standard of care in which Clinton County EMS is establishing. The neurosurgeon who cared for Mikal has emphasized that he would not be where he is today if it wasnโ€™t for the care provided by Paramedic Jordan Gardner, EMT Courtnay Evans, and Paramedic Student Christian Swiniuch.

โ€œWe obviously knew Mikal was severely injured, so we prioritized secondary injury prevention specific for neuro care. We ensured no hypoxia, hypotension, or hypercapnia throughout our care to give him the best chance we couldโ€ Lead Paramedic Jordan Gardner said about the teamโ€™s care. โ€œWeโ€™re just really grateful to have a chance to meet himโ€ Jordan continued.

Mikal continues to have a long road ahead of him. He has doctor appointments, physical therapy, and occupational therapy multiple times a week. The family is in need of more reliable transportation that is also wheelchair accessible. As a community, please come together to help support this recovering family. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-mikal-simmons-get-a-wheelchairaccessible-van

๐Ÿš‘๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ‰ PARAMEDIC PROGRAM GRADUATION

We are thrilled to announce a monumental milestone for our paramedic program as we celebrate the graduation of our very first cohort! This achievement marks not only the culmination of hard work and dedication from our graduates but also the beginning of an exciting new chapter for each of them.

Over the past 15 months, our graduates have shown incredible growth, resilience, and determination. We are proud to announce that they have all passed their National Registry Exam on their FIRST attempt, with the minimum number of questions required, and are all now Indiana Licensed Paramedics.

This unique program is successful because of Paramedic Program Director, Dolores Paul, and the passion, dedication, and expertise she brings to the classroom.

Congratulations graduates! We are so proud of Beau, Christian, and Megan. ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ“
