SANSKRIT MEANING:
“Phalaka” plank or board
“Asana” pose

BENEFITS:
> Strengthens arms, shoulders, and wrists
> Tones the core and stabilizing muscles
> Improves posture and balance
> Prepares the body for arm balances and inversions

GIVE IT A TRY!
1. Start in Tabletop Position on hands and knees.
2. Step your feet back one at a time, bringing your body into a straight line from head to heels.
3. Align your shoulders directly over your wrists.
4. Engage your core - draw your belly in and lengthen your tailbone toward your heels.
5. Press through your palms and lift through the chest, keeping your neck long.
6. Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute, breathing steadily.
7. To release, gently lower your knees or transition into Downward-Facing Dog or Chaturanga.

HELPFUL TIPS:
> Keep your hips in line (not sagging or lifted).
> Spread your fingers wide for even weight distribution.
> Modify by lowering the knees if needed.

Congratulations! 🎉 Tranquil Soul’s November Yogini of the Month✨ 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒂 𝑻𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐀’𝐒 𝐘𝐎𝐆𝐀 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘:
Throughout my life, I have been active and involved in some sort of exercise; at least until COVID brought things to a screaming halt. As a nurse practitioner, I know how important mindful living and regular exercise is to mind, body and spirit. Subsequently, on my 60th birthday, I asked myself the same question I ask my patients every day- what are you doing for self-care? When I answered honestly, I decided I had to do what I regularly recommend to others- find a yoga class.

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐀’𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐒𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍:
Making time to attend classes. Prior to starting classes at TS, I was working from 9a to 6p, 4 days per week. My hours often extended until 8 or 9 pm with finishing up office tasks and commuting. My days off consisted of taking care of family members, leaving no time for me. Then I started to “hear” what the instructors were saying, “honor yourself,” “give yourself a loving hug,” “thank yourself for taking time to be here.” So, I opened an office closer to home and cut back my hours in order to fit regular yoga classes into my schedule… and I’m loving it! As a bonus, I get to spend more time with my granddaughters, too!

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐀’𝐒 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐋 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐋 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄:
Hands down, the people. Everyone is warm and welcoming. Tranquil Soul is much more than a studio- it is a community of people supporting and encouraging one another. I love that people sit around and chat before and after class, and friendships extend inside and out of the studio. Life hands everyone trials and tribulations. Tranquil Soul is a place where we can let go and hang our struggles at the door.

This class begins with guided seated meditation and gentle neck and shoulder stretches, followed by a mindful seated yoga flow to warm the arms, legs, hips, and back. You’ll strengthen your body using light resistance tools such as Pilates balls, hand weights, and resistance bands.

We’ll also explore simple standing postures for balance and stability (with your chair for support), then close with restorative seated or reclined yoga poses - no hands or knees required. The session concludes with a peaceful savasana and our signature aromatherapy towel.

Our Story

It all began several years ago with a lovely Home Studio tucked away in Mokena - YogaLove with Kim. Word spread of a comfy, friendly atmosphere, where all were warmly welcomed with a hug and encouraged to “Just BE” for awhile. A place where herbal tea, gourmet chocolates, and conversations were served after practice, and beautiful days were spent practicing poolside in the garden enjoying nature’s gifts. Classes were donation-based and all funds collected were distributed with gratitude and love to area families, children, and animals in need.

A community was born.

Fast forward a few years and over 350 students later, it was time for YogaLove to morph into Tranquil Soul Yoga & Wellness Studio. With a dream of creating an inviting haven where the practice of yoga was less intimidating and more accessible to all people, and where instructors, as well as guests, could feel they found their “yoga home”... It was time to trust the Universe.

At last, Tranquil Soul Studio opened its doors 11.18.18.

We believe yoga to be a healing practice of creating peace within - One that unites the body with spirit, calms the mind, strengthens without harm, and offers joy and balance to life.
