It is the time of year where we start breaking out the boots!

Before you throw them on do a boot check:

1. Make sure they're still supporting your feet well. Buy inserts or replace the boots if they're not.

2. Check the heel - if there is one - for signs of wearing or tearing or anything that might threaten its stability. (Nobody wants a rolled ankle!)

3. Give boots 24 hours to air out between wears to help prevent odor, fungus, and excessive wear.

While you can't prevent Alzheimer's, here are a few things you can do to support your brain and overall health:

1. Stay physically active and don't be afraid of strength training because it keeps your body stronger longer. Exercise also helps with blood flow and some studies show it can cut dementia risk by 30-40%!

2. Eat lots of leafy greens, berries, whole grains, nuts, fish, and limit red meats. Diets focused on these things are linked to slower cognitive decline.

3. Keep your brain engaged - read, learn new things, play games and puzzles! Keep your brain stimulated!

4. Prioritize Sleep - we can talk forever about the importance of sleep on EVERYTHING in your body. But poor sleep increases risks for negative health impacts.

5. Remember: what is good for the heart is good for the brain.

Taking care of your feet regularly can help you catch early earning signs for health problems in other parts of your body.

Warning signs to look out for
1. Persistent, Dry, Cracked heels - could signal dehydration, thyroid imbalance, or skin conditions
2. Swelling - could signal circulation issues, heart or kidney issues
3. Numbness or Tingling - these are often early signs of diabetes or neuropathy
4. Cold Feet - could point to poor circulation, anemia, or vascular disease
5. Yellow, Thick Toenails - could signal a fungal infection, early sign of diabetes, or circulation issues
