We provide Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, serving clients in vulnerable populations who often experience healthcare barriers of access to services such as those we offer. To these modern approaches, we may further customize treatment plans by adding our own patient-centered interventions: integrative techniques for increased symptom reduction and deep relaxation. This all comes together in our 3 Medicines Nature-based sessions to heal Body, Mind and Spirit.

We add ambient music specific to healing vibrations used for co-occurring medical conditions, guided imagery, and somatic touch techniques. These Interventions support healing the body in a holistic way, and are based in the science of neuroplasticity.

In addition to modern therapeutic interventions you may consider an integrative practitioner, such as Lilyheart to help guide and clear energy blocks in the body, release tension, the toxic effects of environmental and chemical toxins, and cortisol overload from things that cause stress in our lives, escalting us into states of dis-ease.

Other virbraceutical and electroceutical Interventions we may Include are Lilyheart Nature Essences Incorpoated into Narrative Therapy for trauma informed care. Cancer and post-op patients may benefit from an ionic footbath followed by an Usui and Karuna Reiki session to help speed the healing process after accidents, illness, trauma and surgery. Havening is a newer therapeutic technique that is used for releasing traumatically encoded memories. Accupressure and Reflexology help to further reduce the cortisol release that occurs during “fight/flight/freeze/faint” responses that create tension in the body and lead to mental and behavioral health challenges that often are root causes we call “negative biopsychosocial determinants of health.” Our therapeutic treatment plans qualify as “medically necessary,” at Lilyheart Integrative Counseling & Wellness, PLLC; these interventions are co-created specific to your needs and represent some of the complementary healing modalities that make our practice different.

Oh, and you can opt to experience this all in a complementary setting, choosing in-office, “person in environment” in-home visits, or by adding an optional assisted equine session that you may just find takes your healing to another level. This is not just a session where you learn to ride a horse; you partner with an equine companion at our Frankfort office location, and you learn how a horse can support your healing journey, and in turn, you provide companionship and mutual support to your horse.

You can even bring your Emotional Support Animal to your session, and we can teach you how to share these techniques with your animal companion in meaningful ways that create a beautiful partnership.

Use of these evidence based strategies along with a practice of taking on a “attitude of gratitude“ can really be a game changer. Reach out if we can be of assistance.

Many mental and behavioral health conditions revolve around generational trauma, and this often finds its source in dysfunctional family systems that began before you were born. Traumatic stressors such as war, childhood adverse experiences (ACES): verbal, emotional physical and/or sexual abuse, neglect, as well as complex loss and/or grief, among many other adverse circumstances all negatively impact families.

You may hear the terms:
“the black sheep of the family,” this is a role known as the family “scapegoat;” family systems have many other players who take on other roles, all of which contribute to family dysfunction.

It has to “break apart” sooner or later.
Good for you for being the strong one who breaks this vicious cycle.

If you see yourself or a loved one is suffering , you can encourage the path to healing to commense. One way to begin to find a way to heal, and break the chain of generational trauma, is to tell yourself “the buck stops here.”

Please read the following passage, and if this applies to you, or someone you love, reach out to begin to heal these wounds. It is possible to find yourself again; you are loved, and you are worth it.

💕❤️‍🩹🌀🦋🌈🌟😊🤟🏻💝💕

“They won't say it out loud but in a dysfunctional family, the one who chooses to heal becomes the threat.
Not because you're wrong but because your truth makes them uncomfortable.
The moment you stop shrinking to keep the peace, set boundaries, or say "This isn't okay with me anymore," you'll be called dramatic. Selfish. Too sensitive.
But listen: You're not the problem for wanting peace.
You're not too much for choosing healing over silence.
You're not breaking the family-you're breaking the cycle.
They'll shame you because your growth reveals their wounds. Keep going.
Your voice might rattle the room, but it's also the reason future generations will finally breathe easier.
You are the cycle breaker.
And that is something to be proud of.”

Julia Butterfly Hill came to Louisville in 2004 and I was grateful to be able to claim the last of 50 limited seats for an all day workshop sitting in with this beautiful soul who encouraged me and all present to be authentic. My favorite quote “Be like the tree that stands in the forest, and just is. Stand in your power and just do your work.” Together, we make a difference. Aho.

You can read more about The Legacy of Luna in her book. I just came upon this post and find it to be a timely reminder to us all to “Be Athentic! Be like the tree that stands in the forest and…just…IS.”

December 10, 1997. Northern California.
Julia Butterfly Hill was 23 when she climbed Luna, a massive ancient redwood tree in Humboldt County, and set up a tiny platform nearly 180 feet above the ground. Her goal was simple: keep the Pacific Lumber Company from cutting it down. She expected to stay a few days. Nobody imagined she would remain in the tree for more than two years.

The old-growth redwood forests were disappearing, and Luna was one of the few giants left, believed to be between 600 and 1,500 years old. Logging crews had already marked it for cutting. Julia decided the only way to stop it was to live in the tree itself.

Life in the canopy was anything but romantic. She slept on small wooden platforms, hauled up supplies by rope, endured freezing rain and violent storms, and strapped herself to branches when high winds made the tree sway wildly. Helicopters flew close to rattle her, and loggers cut down surrounding trees to intimidate her. She faced isolation, exhaustion, and constant danger. Still, she stayed.

Through a solar-powered phone and later radio interviews, Julia began sharing Luna’s story with the world. She spoke about the damage caused by clear-cutting and the importance of protecting ancient ecosystems. Her quiet determination drew national attention, and the pressure on Pacific Lumber increased.

Day after day, season after season, she refused to come down. She celebrated two birthdays in Luna. She endured two winters. She learned the rhythms of the forest and felt a deep connection to the tree she was trying to save.

After 738 days, Pacific Lumber finally agreed to negotiate. On December 18, 1999, Julia climbed down from Luna. The company promised to protect the tree and the land around it in exchange for a donated payment from supporters. Luna was safe.

Her return to solid ground was difficult. After so long in a constantly swaying tree, she could barely walk without losing her balance. But she had won. One person had saved an ancient redwood that might otherwise have been lost forever.

Julia’s tree-sit became one of the most famous acts of environmental activism in modern history. It showed the power of nonviolent resistance and inspired people around the world to believe that individual action can create real change. Luna still stands today, protected and growing, even after surviving vandalism in 2000.

Julia Butterfly Hill gave up two years of her life for one tree. Many would call that sacrifice unreasonable. She saw it differently. She believed that change begins when someone decides not to give up, even when the odds are impossible.

One person. One tree. 738 days. And Luna is still alive because she chose to climb and refused to come down.
