✨ Parenting 101 = WELCOME TO YOUR NEW JOB ✨
(As if we needed another title… but honestly? This one made me laugh and reflect.)
Yesterday, Building Bright Futures hosted Parenting 101, and it started like a job posting:
âś… Compassionate problem solver
âś… Thrives in teamwork
âś… Detail-oriented self-starter
âś… Full-time+ (lol PLUS)
✅ Rewarding, challenging, fun, life-changing… all at once
And then it hit the real point:
Most of us are parenting with the training we got… from our parents.
Not in a “blame” way—more like a wake-up call.
A few takeaways I’m still thinking about:
💛 Self-awareness matters. We all have default settings—reserved or open, anxious or calm, rigid or flexible, people-pleasing or controlling… and those show up most when we’re stressed.
💛 “Do as I say, not as I do” doesn’t work long-term. Kids are concrete, literal thinkers and they learn by watching us: Monkey see, monkey do.
💛 Old thinking vs. new thinking: Kids aren’t blank slates. They have their own preferences, emotions, and “factory equipment,” and they need guidance more than harsh discipline.
đź’› What helps most? Self-reflection. Self-understanding. Self-compassion. Support. (Because parenting without support is like trying to run a marathon in flip-flops.)
And the “irreducible needs of childhood” that made everyone go quiet (in the best way):
Attachment & connection with the adults responsible for them
Attachment security—the freedom to be who they are without earning it
Permission to feel emotions (and still be safe + loved)
Agenda-free play—imaginative, interactive, problem-solving play
If you were there—thank you for showing up with open hearts. 💛
And if you weren’t there but wish you were… you’re not behind. You’re invited.
💬 What part of parenting feels the most “full-time+” in your house right now?
(And what kind of support would actually help?)
