Kaiser Family Foundation did a study on the top complaints Medicare beneficiaries most commonly reported to have post enrollment into a plan:

The #1 Complaint After Enrolling in a Medicare Plan

👉 “My doctor isn’t covered.”

This was the number one leader in 2025 that led to disenrollment.

The second was unexpected out-of-pocket costs on Medicare Advantage plans.

Copays higher than expected. Coinsurance misunderstood. Max-out-of-pocket confusion.

The third was prescription drug surprises

Drug not covered. Tier changes. Pharmacy not preferred.

These were in order what research 🔬 shows leads to the most given reasons to someone cancelling their plan.

To put it bluntly, these things not being check ahead of time or explained properly likely resulted in the person ending up on the wrong plan for them.

None of these should be a surprise. They aren’t to me after being in the business for 8 years, but it does suggest that the majority of these issues come from:

- High volume churn & burn call centers.

- Attempts at self enrollment.

- Yes, either newer field agents or lazy ones.

But I’d argue the majority of these cases would be avoided entirely if not dramatically reduced if a good field Medicare agent was involved.

Data is clear. These issues are not nearly as present when agents are involved. Agents are quite literally a trifecta of efficiency & stabilization for everyone involved. Everybody wins.

The agent gets to help the client. The insurance company sees less complaints & less early policy cancellations. The client ends up on the right plan for them with a greater understanding of what they have right off the bat.

Agents aren’t going anywhere. These are problems that need solving. And right now, an agent being involved with the Medicare beneficiary is the best way for these to be avoided broadly.
