Early this Spring, the water company put in a new line and planted mullein all along our driveway. So - before the new neighbor mowed it all down we transplanted 18 plants.
Mullein is an expectorant, which means it helps the body expel excess mucus, usually by helping make your coughs more productive, to bring up mucus that may be settling in the chest or in the throat. It is also a demulcent, so it creates a soothing anti-inflammatory coating over mucous membranes.
The taste of the isn't great by itself. After all, it's a large green plant. The flowers are nice and sweet though. We usually use a tablespoon of dried mullein with a bag of our favorite tea.
My grandddaughter likes spiced Chai and I love English rose. Even a black tea with some honey week do nicely.
Mullein can also be smoked in a pipe for faster relief. It has helped me before.
Keep your eyes open around disturbed areas right now because the mullein is getting tall and starting to flower!
