It is with heavy hearts that our practice family announces the passing of our nurse practitioner Tammy’s mother Maureen Macchione. She slipped away peacefully in hospice care on Friday morning. Services will be held at the Franklin Funeral Home on Wednesday 2/17 from 4-9pm and the funeral will be held at St Catherine’s Church on Thursday 2/18 at 10:30am. We all wish Tammy & her family our sincerest condolences for their loss.

Happy Christmas Eve Eve to everyone! Our hours for 12/24 will be 9-12 and we will be closed 12/25 & 12/26. The office will be open Sunday 12/27 from 9-12. Sending extra warm wishes to all of our families and LI Peds staff.

Just wanted to give a practice update. As Covid cases start to climb again, our office is restarting our strict exposure protocols. We will continue to see symptomatic fever visits in isolation through our side entry. As most sick visits may be seen there, please be patient as office flow may slow down at times. Despite having this unique option, the isolation room visits can be disruptive to our schedule from all PPE gowning & Covid testing. Rest assured, all precautions are being taken as usual to avoid main office contamination. In that vein, household contacts will not be seen in our office based on probability of positive testing & lack of negative pressure room requirements. In that situation, CDC recommendations are still for household members to fully quarantine; thus, if asymptomatic, waiting to test at 3-5 days elsewhere or near end of quarantine is still ideal. If a patient has a history of other contact exposure, such as at school, we may test them by walk-up. We are currently using the longer lab-performed PCR test as it is the gold standard Covid testing. Delays can occur in resulting; so, in the case that rapids are accepted for say, return to school, we will comply with their use as per the DOH & refer patients to a local testing site. All Covid-related calls are triaged on a case-by-case basis.

You may also see new general Covid-related charges applied to visits that certain insurers have not started recognizing yet. You may want to inquire with your individual carrier regarding their cost-sharing criteria if charges get billed as patient responsibility.

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our incredible staff who has worked tirelessly, often times under tremendous pressure, to bring our patients level of care they are used to. This year has been hard on many and we all look forward to the day when things are safer and can return to normal. Once again, thank you for trusting us to care of your family. Even though this year may look different, try to find the good and have a happy, healthy Thanksgiving holiday.
