In case you did not know, Narcan (Naltrexone) is available over-the-counter without a prescription. It can help stop opioid/narcotic binding at sites which caused respiratory depression, or people to stop breathing. So if you find someone unconscious, and you don’t know why, it might help and it won’t hurt to give it. 🙏🏽

It started with a simple belief:

Overdose deaths are preventable.

In 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved over-the-counter naloxone — removing prescription barriers and expanding access nationwide.

A milestone years in the making.

A victory for families everywhere — including ours.

Because naloxone saves lives.

Seriously, ew. Don’t take your phone in the bathroom if you can help it. For safety reasons when you are out and about, sometimes it’s a good idea to take it, but don’t take it out of your pocket unless it’s necessary.

"When I was around 7, my paternal grandfather was diagnosed with for the second time. Two years later, my paternal uncle was diagnosed with CRC and died at the age of 28. Two years after that my grandfather was diagnosed again but with bile duct cancer (BDC). He died a year later.

When I was 19, my father was diagnosed with CRC. After surgery and chemotherapy, he remained cancer free for 21 years until June 2018 when he was diagnosed with two separate cancers, CRC and BDC." - Jack Birren, stage III survivor

Cancer has touched every generation of Jack's family—5 diagnoses across 4 generations.

The reason? Lynch syndrome, an inherited condition that increases the risk of colorectal, endometrial, ovarian, stomach, and other cancers.

Jack turned his family's history into purpose—using his voice to raise awareness and educate others about and .

Today, on Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day, we're shining a light on stories like Jack's—and the importance of knowing your family history, understanding your risk, and taking action.

Please listen to your pediatrician, family practitioner, or primary care physician and not the current administration when it comes to vaccines. 🙏🏽.

They are undoing decades of hard work. And it could cost you your child’s life or well-being.

A statement by Dr. Andrew Racine, President of the American Academy of Pediatrics, on a federal judge's ruling to block key aspects of HHS Secretary RFK Jr’s efforts to upend vaccine policy:

“Today’s ruling is a historic and welcome outcome for children, communities, and pediatricians everywhere. When Secretary Kennedy made unsupported and unscientific changes to pediatric immunization recommendations last year, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) was mission-bound to step up and push back against these dangerous actions that have sown chaos and confusion for parents and pediatricians across the country. This decision effectively means that a science-based process for developing immunization recommendations is not to be trifled with and represents a critical step to restoring scientific decision-making to federal vaccine policy that has kept children healthy for years.

“For decades, the AAP partnered closely with the federal government to advance our mission of attaining the optimal health and well-being of children and youth. We would much prefer to return to that partnership and collaborate with federal healthcare agencies instead of litigating against them. Through this partnership, the AAP and federal health agencies collaborated closely, reviewing the science and discussing the latest evidence alongside experts, to develop clear, unified routine childhood and adolescent immunization recommendations that protect children from dangerous, preventable illnesses.

“We stand by ready to resume this role, which is why we issued our annual update to the childhood immunization schedule that has been formally endorsed by more than 12 national medical societies and supported by hundreds of public health groups, experts, and advocates. In the wake of today’s decision, one thing remains clear: parents can continue to turn to the AAP’s childhood vaccine recommendations and talk with their pediatrician about how to best protect their children's health.”

My patients for the last few years have already had this checked, but it is a good idea to get checked for Lipoprotein(a) levels that are high because 10 to 20% of the population can have this be true, and it increases your cardiovascular risk three times the average person. In a few years, we will have prospects for lowering these levels directly. In the meantime, we have statins which can help indirectly lower risk.

I would recommend getting your lipoprotein(a) levels checked ONCE if you haven’t already. And consider getting your ApoB or apolipoprotein B level checked as well as it is a better determiner of future risk than LDL or your bad cholesterol.

Talk to your doctor.

The test can help assess your lifetime risk for cardiovascular disease. That, along with earlier treatment for high cholesterol, is part of new doctors' guidelines.

We know alcohol is responsible for increasing risk for at least 10 different kinds of cancers. The less you have of it the better. 🙏🏽

Kate, the Princess of Wales, is offering rare insight into her lifestyle and a change she made after being diagnosed with cancer two years ago.

During a visit to Fabal Beerhall in London on Thursday, the 44-year-old declined a drink offer, saying: "Since my diagnosis I haven't had much alcohol ... it's something I have to be a lot more conscious of now."

The CDC and the World Health Organization both note that alcohol consumption has been linked to multiple types of cancer — including breast cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, and mouth and throat cancer — and that drinking less alcohol or abstaining from it is likely better for one's overall health.
