Ono Body Therapy, LLC Judo therapy is a Japanese holistic healing approach for pain management and muscle tension. A judo therapist understands the body as a connected whole.

This treatment is for people suffering from acute injuries, aches, muscle tightness or tension, headaches and chronic pain, as well as for athletes or physically active people looking to enhance performance. This musculoskeletal treatment does not use medication, injections, or X-rays and is an alternative option for those wanting to avoid surgery. This makes it safer and it maximizes the patient’

s ability to heal naturally. Judo therapy will look like a massage to the untrained eye, but make no mistake, the technique is very different from a massage. The purpose of this treatment is not to relax, but to re-adjust and to heal. The therapist will use pressure from their hands to roll out tight muscles, stretch, realign posture, and find balance in the body. It’s very common for a judo therapist to heal the affected area by touching a completely different area (i.e., a problem in the neck could be linked to chewing on one side of the mouth). The first session will consist of learning about the cause and duration of pain, inspecting the area through a body tension test, treating the area and all areas connected with it, and creating a treatment plan tailored to the patient's skeletal structure, muscle tension and symptoms. Afterwards, the therapist will correct bad habits in the patient’s daily life to try and prevent reoccurrence of pain by teaching the patient how to stretch, maintain posture and promote a healthy lifestyle. Does Judo therapy hurt? Judo therapy is not a relaxation massage, so there could be times, depending on the person, when the treatment will feel uncomfortable in problem areas. The level of discomfort depends on the patients condition. Feeling discomfort during the treatment is a part of the therapy and there is no reason to feel concern. Ryoji will only be working on the muscles that need it, so you can expect for it to feel tender. How often should I go to a Judo therapist? Ryoji recommends having general maintenance once a month. If the patient has a specific problem area that requires more work, Ryoji will assess the situation and create a treatment program. The frequency of appointments depends on the person and their condition. The purpose of this therapy is for the patient to heal and not to require more treatment, however the daily habits of people (crossing legs, sleeping positions, etc.) can cause pain to reoccur and require further treatment. What should I wear? We recommend comfortable clothing such as loose fitting or stretchy pants and a loose T-shirt or blouse. You might be asked to touch your toes and the therapist will stretch your legs and arms during the treatment. How long does one session take? The first session takes approximately one hour and 15 minutes to an hour and a half, and usually is the longest of all sessions because the Judo therapist will need to understand where your problem areas are and discuss your past medical history. Subsequent sessions will generally range from 60-75 minutes, but exact times are dependent upon the patient's condition. This therapy is not time oriented, but instead focused on healing and feeling better! Know your therapist
