We were proud to partner once again with the Franklin Police Department as a host site for CarFit & Yellow Dot—this marked our 5th time hosting this incredible program!

CarFit helps ensure your vehicle is the perfect fit for safety and comfort, while the Yellow Dot program provides first responders with vital information in case of an emergency—simple steps that make a big impact on keeping our community safe on the roads.

Our next event is April 29, and we invite all from the Franklin and Williamson County community to stop by and take part!

A big thank you to the Franklin Police Department for their continued partnership and dedication to safety.

It started with a simple phone call…

“Meet us in the lobby at 11:15.”

Nicole and Bill had a surprise up their sleeves for a special group of our Peer Partners and residents who are always giving back in Lilac Trace—and this time, it was their turn to be celebrated.

Destination? The brand new In-N-Out Burger in Franklin (yes, the one everyone is talking about!).

Despite the buzz, the long lines, and the usual wait… we got in, ordered, and found seats quicker than expected. Not all together—but that turned out to be the best part.

Our residents did what they do best… they connected.

One table turned into new friendships with a mom and her 6-year-old daughter, sharing stories about Somerby over burgers and laughter. At another table, a resident struck up a conversation with the group next to her—walking away with new friends and all the insider tips on In-N-Out’s famous secret menu.

And then there was the hat…

One brave resident wore the iconic In-N-Out paper hat on a dare—and it quickly became the star of the table, making its rounds from one resident to another all the way back to Somerby!

And the verdict?

“This is the best burger I’ve ever had!”

A surprise outing, new friendships, and a whole lot of joy… just a small thank you for the big hearts that make our community so special.

Celebrating International Women’s Day in Style

This week we gathered for a special program called Everyday Legacy: The Women Among Us – An American Icon, inspired by Barbie’s birthday and the remarkable stories of the women in our community.

The afternoon began with a conversation about Barbie through the generations and how she became a cultural icon representing possibility and reinvention. But the real inspiration in the room was not a doll — it was the women sitting around the tables.

Together we explored thoughtful questions that sparked wonderful stories and reflections. Residents shared moments of bravery, memories that shaped the women they became, and the small moments in life that still make them smile. The conversation was heartfelt, funny, and deeply meaningful — a beautiful reminder that every woman carries a legacy worth celebrating.

After our discussion, the celebration continued with a little pampering and fun. Our Beauty Bar featured relaxing rose hand massages and trendy under-eye glow patches, while residents enjoyed sparkly pink cocktails and mocktails inspired by Barbie — a playful nod to the day’s theme.

The afternoon was made even more special with a floral workshop hosted by Luxicare, where residents created beautiful arrangements while enjoying time together.

Thank you to Luxicare for sharing your talents and helping make this celebration so memorable.

International Women’s Day is about honoring the strength, stories, and legacy of women everywhere — and we were proud to celebrate the incredible women in our community in such a meaningful (and stylish!) way.

Celebrating the Brilliance that Lives at Somerby Franklin

If you think you know Kitty Mallios, think again.

Long before it was common to see women on the track, Kitty was racing quarter-mile dirt tracks in NASCAR as one of the original female drivers. Dirt track racing isn’t just about speed — it’s about precision, control, and holding steady on the embankments.

During one unforgettable race, while passing another driver, Kitty’s car was tipped and sent nearly 50 feet down an embankment. She climbed out, waved to let everyone know she was fine, had her car pulled out, and finished the race — coming in second. In fact, that was the only race she ever lost.

That competitive spirit has followed her throughout life. Kitty bowled three times a week and collected shelves full of trophies along the way. Today, you’ll often find her in the Club Room at Somerby Franklin — lovingly known as “Kitty’s Office.” Whether it’s Bridge, Mahjong, or any game you can name, Kitty is always ready to play… and play to win.

As one of the original residents of Somerby Franklin, Kitty proudly says she wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

“There’s no place like Somerby. I live in a beautiful place with all of my best friends.”

From dirt tracks to game tables, Kitty Mallios has lived a life full of courage, competition, and connection — and we’re lucky she calls Somerby home.

Bright colors. A lot of joy.

Earlier this week, we introduced our residents to the beautiful festival of Holi — a celebration of light, love, and the simple magic of sharing joyful moments together. And judging by the smiles… the color may wash away, but the happiness will stick around a while.

The bakers in Lilac Trace have been hard at work!

With the sunshine and a beautiful 75-degree day, it felt like the perfect time for something light, bright, and sweet. The kitchen was filled with the sound of whisking, mixing, and plenty of teamwork as our bakers created a beautiful pound cake from scratch.

Once baked to golden perfection, it was topped with juicy, ripe strawberries, bringing fresh flavor and just the right amount of sweetness to this classic treat. The result? A delightful Strawberry Shortcake that tasted just like spring.

A warm day, busy bakers, and a delicious dessert made together—simply wonderful.

Oh, the places we’ve been and the laughter we’ve made,
At Somerby’s Seussical takeover day!

With rhymes that would tickle and riddles that tease,
We twisted a classic with whimsical ease.
“Oh, the Places You’ll Go” took a reflective new turn—
With stories to share and sweet lessons to learn.

We pondered our journeys, both big and quite small,
The mountains we’ve climbed and the slips and near-falls.
Through giggles and grins and a sprinkle of flair,
A little Seuss-y sparkle was floating in air!

We transformed into Whos (yes, down to our toes!),
With bright beaming smiles and button-like noses.
Conversation was clever, connection was sweet,
As Seussian spirit made memories complete.

From rhymes to reflection, from riddles to cheer,
There’s always an adventure when community is near.
At Somerby, fun is never far away—
Who-ville just might come back again someday!

Out & About: Mi Kitchen

We tried something new this week with lunch at Mi Kitchen in Franklin — a fun, Asian-inspired tapas spot with bold Korean fusion flavors.

From the crispy K-Pop Chicken to the refreshing Mi Cucumber, every bite was delicious. The vibes were funky, the food was fantastic, and the best part was sharing it all together.

Great flavor, great laughs, and another sweet memory made.

A Heart That Sees Others – Life in Bloom with Velma

If you’ve noticed a new resident walking the halls with a smiling friend beside them, chances are that friend is Velma.

She has a beautiful way of noticing when someone is adjusting to a new season of life. Whether she’s inviting them to join her for a meal, taking a walk together, or simply sitting and listening, Velma helps others feel seen, valued, and at home.

As we introduce Life in Bloom, Somerby Franklin’s new Assisted Living lifestyle experience, we are reminded that flourishing begins with moments just like these.

Life in Bloom is about more than a calendar — it’s about meaningful days filled with purpose and connection. It’s about knowing you matter. It’s about building friendships that turn neighbors into family. It’s about waking up each day with opportunities to share, to grow, and to belong.

Velma has lived this spirit for years. From serving in her church as a teenager to participating in missions, leading Bible studies, and encouraging others through every season of life, she has always embraced the calling to uplift those around her.

Today, that same heart blesses our community.

In a world that can feel rushed, Velma slows down and truly sees people. And because of her, so many who once walked through our doors feeling new now feel at home.

That is Life in Bloom.

Thank you, Velma, for helping our community flourish — together.
