February is Black History Month, a time to honor the history, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans who have shaped our nation. We remember Harriet Tubman, whose lifelong commitment to service extended beyond her courageous work on the Underground Railroad. Later in life, she helped establish the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged, caring for elderly and underserved members of her community — a powerful example of compassion, dignity, and community care that resonates with us today.

While wintery weather settles in, our residents are happily hunkered down—enjoying chef-prepared meals, engaging activities, and plenty of warm, comfortable moments from the safety of our community.

Our team is keeping a close eye on conditions and ensuring everything runs smoothly. We’ll be sure to share updates if needed, but for now, it’s business as usual—with a little extra cozy. 💙

We turned up the glitz, added the glam, and let Dolly lead the way at our Annual Dolly Parton Celebration. The day was filled with Southern comfort cooking made with love (and just a hint of sparkle), toe-tapping music, and smiles as big as Dolly’s personality. Laughter flowed easily, stories were shared, and for a moment, everything felt lighter, brighter, and a whole lot happier.

It wasn’t just a celebration — it was a reminder that a little sass, a lot of heart, and staying true to who you are can make any day shine. And just like Dolly, we did it our way: bold, joyful, and full of love.

You’ve Got Mail: A Simple Tradition That Stuck!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words… and this one tells a story we love.

Some of the best programs start with a simple thought: “We should do that here.”

Last year, we heard about a heartfelt idea from our sister community, Somerby St. Vincent’s, created by their Life Engagement Director, Jessica. It was called You’ve Got Mail… and we couldn’t resist stealing the idea — the best kind of stealing.

So we tried it as a pop-up on a whim.

Each week, residents from all neighborhoods gather together to write letters and cards to friends in our community. It started with notes for our neighbors in Lilac Trace, filling their mailboxes weekly and hand-delivering each one.

And we quickly realized it wasn’t just about the words — though the words mattered.

It was about the moment someone sees their name on an envelope… Opens it…
And realizes this mail was meant just for them.

That simple act — receiving something personal — made a bigger impact than we ever expected. Soon, our friends in Lilac Trace began writing back, and what started as a small idea turned into something shared throughout the entire community.

Now, You’ve Got Mail has become a staple — a way to reach a friend who may need a little extra love, whether they live in another neighborhood, haven’t been feeling well, or are simply needing a reminder that they’re thought of.
