I was 22, he was 23. We started as buds then dated. One morning he asked me if I was off, because he had the day off, then said today is a good day to get married. So we did. We went to the courthouse, had his cousin marry us, then we went to taco bell and a car race. His grandma knew, she grabbed me a rose from the garden and said "you crazy kids, you have to tell your parents" we took that as her blessing. My mom was out of the country, let's say my fam was not happy with our spontaneous decisions but they sorda expected that from me...28 years later here we are! Thank you Jesus for watching over us all these years while we wondered through the desert until we were 30.

Ear acupuncture has been proven to activate the Vagus Nerve

In another study, 20 hypertensive rabbits received Ear Acupuncture  Erjian and Shenmen. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate, which showed activation of parasympathetic nerves.

The Vagus Nerve is a mixed nerve and consists of “4/5 afferent and 1/5 efferent fibers.”4 The VN is the only facial nerve that extends beyond the head and neck.6 The VN has branches that extend into the pharynx and larynx, into the heart, lungs, and abdomen.5 These branches control heart rate, breathing and digestion.5

If there is damage to the VN, it would be “incompatible with life because these parasympathetic nerves are crucial in maintaining normal state of visceral organ activity.”6 The VN acts in union with the sympathetic nervous system.4 It is through this connection that the VN has been used to treat chronic inflammatory disorders.4 The VN is also a target for treating digestive disorders, epilepsy, and depression.4

Feeling perplexed about how to handle perimenopause, menopause, fertility challenges, irregular periods? You are not alone! It is very overwhelming at times b/c we have so much information coming at us.!

Hormonal imbalance treatments ARE NOT A ONE AND DONE. It takes time to figure out what started the imbalance, what sustains the imbalance, what treatments are best for the imbalance, and how long it will take to regulate the imbalance.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture can help you get started and accomplish a good chunk. Sometimes chronic conditions may require different types of testings, but can work alongside your other practitioners or help you connect to other modalities that can be helpful.

Hot flashes and night sweats

Mood swings and anxiety

Sleep disturbances

Fatigue and brain fog

Vaginal dryness and low libido

Irregular or heavy periods during perimenopause

Not everyone experiences all of these and some may experience each at different stages of hormone fluctuation. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments are designed to fit your particular presentation. Next slides are examples of acu points you can use and a formula I often use to calm hotflashes and a hypersensitive central nervous system.
This is one of several formula we use as one does not fit all.

Anything can happen and miracles do exist! Their fertility journey was one of few years. Mama was 43 when she came to see me for acupuncture. She was healthy and her hormone panel was "normal" but natural conception had its challenges. She decided to give IVF a try but she did not want to do any of the meds. She convinced her R.E. to just let her do it her way. He agreed even though he was not optimistic. After the egg retrieval only one embryo made it. Sometime went by while life kept happening and finally 2 yrs later her body was ready for her transfer. By this time she was now 45. Again mama refused to use meds recommended except for progesterone. She knew her body well and knew that this was the only thing she could do.
Transfer happened and we got a positive pregnancy test. We (her R.E. her OB, my self and few others on her support team) were soooo pumped! We were so excited to even make it this far. The pregnancy took and we celebrated each mile mark. This mama was in shock and disbelief that she kept denying this miracle for months. She just kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. Even at 8 months she was still saying I will believe it when he is born!
We can't explain why pregnancies take or not take. Why some women will never get to grow a baby of their own, but we can always pray and have hope. Once in a while we get blessings. And 3 yrs later we still celebrate this couple and cutie pie. Both mom and dad got the baby they had prayed for!

Happy Father's Day to all of those who have been a father figure, actual fathers, fathers to many, spiritual fathers, and to those women who are single and have had to be both roles.
These are the awesome fathers in our family.

Balancing the body and hormones post partum through the lenses of TCM.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, the postpartum period is a profound and vulnerable time of transition, both energetically and physiologically. The body has just completed the immense task of pregnancy and childbirth, which involves a substantial expenditure of Blood, Qi, and Essence (Jing). Each of the key organ systems plays a specific role in recovery and rebalancing, particularly as hormonal shifts unfold.

Here’s a breakdown of how the main organ systems are affected postpartum and how they interact with hormonal changes:

Hormone Balance is useful in all stages of life. Today I'm mentioning postpartum since I have a few mammas that just gave birth but it's starts at the beginning of menstruation for some. Don't ignore the signs.

From an Acupuncturist's point of view, particularly through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), hormonal shifts postpartum are viewed not just in terms of biochemistry, but as energetic changes in the Qi, Blood, and organ systems — especially the Kidneys, Liver, Spleen, and Heart.
