Elsie Mae Armstrong Matlock

Elsie Mae Armstrong Matlock peacefully transitioned from her Earthly home to her heavenly home with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at the age of 80. She is the oldest girl born to Ollie Armstrong and Anna Lou Henry Armstrong on April 13, 1945.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joe Frank Armstrong, Pastor Robert Thomas Armstrong, and sister Johnny Ruth Armstrong.
Elsie Mae was educated in the Maury County and Giles County schools systems. Elsie Mae moved to Nashville, TN in 1963 and began working and raising her three adopted daughters, The Ginsberg Girls, Beth, Betty, and Karen where remained being a positive guiding lights for "Her Girls" for more than 60 years.
Elsie Mae was an active member of Olivet Missionary Baptist Church. Elsie Mae celebrated and embraced both the Baptist and Jewish faiths. She also studied at Tennessee State University (TSU), studying Behavioral Health while working at the Dede Wallace Mental Health Center, where she met life long friends and future family members. While becoming a permanent resident in Nashville, Elsie Mae befriended and worked with different families in the Jewish Community; The Saperstein Family, The Chazen Family, The Doochin Family, The Jacob Family, and The Werthan Family.
Elsie Mae had "Only One Biological Son", Sidney Matlock (USMC Veteran), at the age of 33. Elsie Mae began selling Mary Kay Cosmetics in 1983 as a way of providing and being of service with the company for 42 years as an Independent Sales Director. Being of Service" is what her Legacy is all about. Elsie Mae or Aunt Elsie's greatest gift is "Being of Service" and being there/present for others. It's never a surprise seeing Elsie Mae at someone's house or in the waiting room or even at a family reunion bringing joy to everyone she comes in contact with. "The Legend of Elsie Mae" will live on forever in our hearts. She will forever be missed deeply.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her biological son Sidney Matlock, three granddaughters (grandchildren) Brooklyn LaPerna, Madisyn McClain, Neveah Burrum, sister Anna Armstrong Braden, brother James (JD) Armstrong, devoted niece Tamika (Amstrong) Tomlin (Jaylin), three adopted daughters Beth (Ginsberg) Tannenbaum, Betty (Ginsberg) Anderson, Karen (Ginsberg) King with their children, grandchildren David (Maggie) Tannenbaum, Danielle (David) Pash, Gemini (Dan) Anderson, Michael (Clare) King, Stephanie King, Lisa Chazen Levine with David, Molly, and Noah, special adopted daughter Patricia (Anthony) Batey, special adopted son Daryl Jefferies, special adopted cousins Mary Ann Miller, Mitchell Smith, a list of first cousins, nieces and nephews, close friends Gayle (Terrance) Johnson, Dr. Carolyn Caudle, Howard Jones, Linda (Phil) Hall, The Pargeon Family (Errett, Pamela, Payton, Katelyn, Joscelyn, and Jaxeson), Nedra White-Wartham, Shirley Williams, Vickie Harris, Carolyn Hodison, Brenda Barrow, Tony and Pam Beard, an d host of bonus children, relatives, and friends.
