In honor of World Down Syndrome Awareness Day, we’re highlighting one of our amazing therapists, Grace 💙💛

When asked what inspired her to become an SLP, she shared:
“I have always had a close relationship with my younger brother, Luke. I have watched him make tremendous strides in many areas of his life, especially in his communication. He did not verbally communicate for the first few years of his life. Today, he uses words, phrases, and his communication device to build strong connections with everyone around him. Seeing how much happiness Luke gained from the ability to communicate made me want to help others achieve the same. He inspired me to become a speech therapist and continues to be the reason I strive to bring hope to all of my patients and their families.”

We are so grateful for the heart and passion Grace brings to our families every day.
Happy World Down Syndrome Awareness Day! 💙💛

Big things are coming to Pinkerton Park! 🌿

On Thursday, March 26th at 12:00 PM, we’ll be installing a communication board to help support language, connection, and inclusive play for every child—and we’d love for you to join us!

This board is designed to give children a voice while they play 💬 Featuring pictures, symbols, and words, it supports individuals who use AAC while also encouraging language development, social interaction, and connection for children of all abilities.

We’re so grateful to partner with and the City of Franklin Parks & Recreation Department to bring this meaningful addition to our community.

Come celebrate with us and see how something as simple as visuals can open the door to communication, inclusion, and play for all 💛

Did you know handwriting starts before letters? ✏️✨

Children first learn pre-writing strokes like vertical lines ⬇️, horizontal lines ➡️, circles ⭕, and crosses ➕. These simple shapes help build the foundation for handwriting.

Make practice fun by using crayons 🖍️, chalk outside 🌞, or even drawing in shaving cream 🫧. Play-based learning is one of the best ways to strengthen those little hands! 💪🖐️

Spring is a beautiful reminder that growth often happens quietly. 🌷

In therapy, the “new thing” might look like a child trying a new skill, saying a new word, taking a brave step, or reaching a milestone that once felt impossible.

Little by little, progress begins to bloom. 🌱

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” — Isaiah 43:19

We are so grateful to witness these moments of growth every day. 💛

Did you know story time can help build fine motor skills? 📚
Turning pages, pointing to pictures, and lifting flaps all help strengthen little hands and improve finger coordination.

Try this at home:

📘 Let your child turn the pages

📗 Encourage pointing to pictures

📕 Ask them to trace letters with their finger

Reading builds language AND hand skills at the same time!

Some stories stay with you long after you hear them. ❤️

Rouse and his mom, Citzie, shared a heartfelt testimonial about their journey and why they chose Rise Up. Their story is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do every single day — supporting families, celebrating progress, and helping every child reach their potential.

We are so grateful to be a small part of their journey. Thank you, Rouse and Citzie, for trusting us and for sharing your story with our community.

✨ Your voice matters. Your story inspires.

✨ One Small Change ✨

📚 Early Language Tip: Visit your local library! Story times and easy crafts offered at many libraries are a wonderful way to build language skills, support listening, and encourage social interaction—especially for children who are home with caregivers most of the day.

🗣️ Articulation Tips: Consistency matters! Aim for 10–15 minutes of daily practice with your child’s target sound using gentle reminders and positive praise. You can also turn everyday routines into practice time—car rides are perfect for playing “I Spy” with objects that include their speech sound.
👉 Another helpful tip: practice in front of a mirror and watch how your mouth moves when making sounds. Seeing how lips and tongue form words can make a big difference!

Small moments, practiced daily, can lead to big progress 💛

🥦 Myth-Busting Feeding Therapy 🥦
True or False? Kids need to eat all their veggies at every meal to be healthy.

❌ False. - While veggies are good, the variety is what matters! Try mixing their favorite foods with veggies! For example, Mac-n-Cheese and broccoli

Small wins add up—and pressure-free meals help create confident eaters. 💚
