Due to the high rate of influenza in the Western North Carolina region, all Mission Health hospitals and affiliates are temporarily limiting visitation to two (2) well visitors per patient, and only those age 13 and older will be permitted to visit at this time. Exceptions to the restriction will be considered in cases such as end-of-life or pediatric/NICU patients.

We understand these restrictions may pose a hardship for some, but our utmost concern is for the health and safety of all our patients and our entire community. Visitor limitations will remain in place until reported flu-like activity decreases.

If you or a loved one is sick, please talk to your primary care provider on the best course of treatment or call our Consult-A-Nurse line at 844-706-8773.

This holiday season, Angel Medical Center staff participated in HCA Healthcare’s annual Healthy Food for Healthier Tomorrows canned food drive and food sculpture contest. Angel Medical Center not only collected more than 1,000 cans of food, but were also named the winner of the HCA Healthcare North Carolina Division food sculpture contest. As winners of the sculpture contest, the hospital earned a cash donation from HCA Healthcare to benefit the food pantry of their choice.

The $15,000 donation and collected food items were presented to Macon County Care Network to help support their mission of providing food and other assistance to those in need in our community.

The canned food sculpture depicted a lighthouse and was constructed from 1012 cans of food, 44 large bags of noodles and six large bags of rice. The sculpture also featured a revolving light. The sculpture was created by Rick VanGilder, Angel Medical Center Program Manager, and a team of hospital volunteers including Gay Todsen, JD Minnix, Beverly Minnix and Randi VanGilder.

HCA Healthcare’s commitment to community goes beyond clinical care. Since 1998, the HCA Healthcare Foundation has provided over $300 million to more than 14,000 community organizations through grants and gift matching.

If you’re not feeling merry and bright this holiday season, you’re not alone. The holidays can be a joyful time, but they can also bring anxiety and emotional strain. Knowing the symptoms of depression can help you recognize when you’re feeling more than seasonal stress.

If you’re struggling with depression, these tips from the National Alliance on Mental Illness may help you manage it better so you can enjoy holiday festivities:

🎯 Be aware of your personal triggers.
✍️ Try journaling or writing a gratitude list to shift your perspective.
📅 Do your best to avoid overscheduling – it’s okay to say no.
🛑 Set boundaries with people who make you feel negative emotions.
🧘 Make time for relaxation, deep breathing or meditation to help ease stress.
🍷 Drink in moderation as alcohol can amplify negative emotions.

Across our broader HCA Healthcare system of care, we are part of an integrated network of mental health and wellness facilities, comprising over 50 inpatient facilities and more than 200 outpatient programs across 15 states. If you’re looking for mental health support, we’re here for you. Learn more about Mission Health's mental health and wellness services: https://bit.ly/3MULJpn
