Almost 20 years ago, Bridget and I founded Nantuckit Furniture company based on a problem we had with slipcovered furniture we purchased from one of the "big guys." Unfortunately, the company had discontinued that line (it was called the "Spinnaker"). We were left with a very frustrating and expensive decision. Live with this furniture (we loved the frame, cushions, and style) but settle for slipcovers that weren't right for us anymore (they were worn, dirty, not the right color, etc). Instead, it sparked an idea :) I named it "Fabric and Frame." The tagline was "furniture forever, slipcovers whenever." The idea stayed just an idea until 2005 when I sold another business I had co-founded and needed something to do...so I decided to dust off the "Fabric and Frame" idea and take a closer look. Then, in October 2005, we launched under the name Nantuckit Furniture Company one because Nantucket.com was taken by the community of Nantucket (I think), two because I didn't think "Fabric and Frame" was right, and 3 because I wanted to inspire the feeling of what it felt like to be on Nantucket island (the place where Bridget and I spent our honeymoon). All that because we wanted to solve a personal problem we had and because we believe that furniture needs to be flexible not to mention that every piece of furniture we own is slipcovered! We have an active life. Slipcovered furniture fits our lifestyle because it can be washed, changed, and customized to suit our tastes, and it's more environmentally friendly that having to buy all new furniture when there's rarely anything wrong with the cushions or frame. Over the past almost 20 years, we helped thousands of people like us get the furniture they love and can continue to love...for as long as they want it.
