We would like to introduce our new COTA, Jana! She has been with us for a few weeks now and has been a great addition to our OT team. You can read a little bit about Mrs. Jana below 💙

Originally from South Mississippi, Jana has lived in Western North Carolina for over 14 years. Jana earned her Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assisting from Southwestern Community College in May of 2025. She holds both national certification and NC state licensure. During her clinical fieldwork in school, Jana gained experience across various settings, working with a diverse range of clients. After graduation, Jana worked PRN in various Nursing Homes in the WNC area before deciding to work in pediatrics, where she truly fell in love with her profession. In her free time, Jana enjoys trying out new crafts and recipes, karaoke nights with friends, going on spontaneous adventures, and the quiet moments at home with her husband and 3 cats.

A growing body of research shows that proprioceptive training...like joint position exercises and target-reaching tasks...can make a big difference in how kids move and function. These activities support body awareness, coordination, and movement control, laying the foundation for strong motor skills 🧠💪

As occupational therapy providers, weaving proprioceptive activities into our sessions is effective AND can be fun too!
