When I was just starting in breastfeeding medicine, I had so many people I looked up to that were involved with the AAP Section on Breastfeeding so when I was looking for leadership opportunities, I joined the Section. Now, this fall, I get to be Chair. It's a bit intimidating, but the people of the Section are so passionate, I think I am going to enjoy the ride.

This is a big day for me. We have been working on this tongue and breastfeeding paper for a few years and it got published this morning!

Ankyloglossia refers to a congenitally tight lingual frenulum that limits the motion of the tongue. Whether the release of a tight lingual frenulum in neonates improves breastfeeding is not clear. A nice reminder for this cold weather.

Keeping baby warm in the winter is essential. Use layers, instead of puffy material, to ensure your car seat harness has a snug fit.

We are getting guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices about how and when to use the monoclonal antibody against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). It will be recommended for all infants heading into their first RSV season (October to March) and high risk children going into their second RSV season. ACIP and AAP Recommendations for the Use of the Monoclonal Antibody Nirsevimab for the Prevention of RSV Disease Nirsevimab was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on July 17, 2023. Nirsevimab is a long-acting monoclonal antibody product intended for use in newborns and infants to....

I see so much iron deficiency from excessive cow's milk intake in children over a year of age. Kids have needed blood transfusions and IV iron infusions. Sixteen ounces is enough. More than that and we get disorders of sleep, gut health and development. I know I am in a state where we wear cheese on our heads, but too much cow's milk is not good for children.
