Therapy that feels like a trip to the park! ✨

Sometimes, the best breakthroughs don't happen at a table—they happen in a tunnel, on a slide, or while swinging.

By utilizing our gym during speech sessions, we are teaching communication in a high-energy, natural environment. It helps our kiddos practice turn-taking, following directions, and social skills in a way that feels like pure fun.

Watch this little superstar conquer the tunnel and the swing while working hard on their speech goals! 🌟

Ever wonder what these crinkly, colorful tubes are? They aren’t just toys—they are powerful tools for building communication!

We use them for:
Requesting: Modeling "more," "pull," and "pop."
Joint Attention: Sharing the "ready… set… GO!" moment before pulling them apart.
Speech Sounds: Using the "p" sound for "pop" or "t" for "tube."
Following Directions: "Put the blue one on the floor" or "Give the orange one to me."

❄️ Teletherapy Still Brings the Fun! ❄️

Even though Eleanore and Mrs. Brittany couldn’t meet in person last week, they didn’t miss a beat! They practiced emotional regulation skills, talked all about the winter weather, and stayed connected through teletherapy. 💙

With winter weather, teletherapy can be a great option to keep therapy consistent when travel isn’t safe. Sessions may look a little different—but they’re still engaging, effective, and fun!

If you’re interested in teletherapy during inclement weather, be sure to let your therapist know. We’re here to support your child no matter the forecast! ☃️✨

Speech Therapy looks different for every child 💬💙

In some session, it might just look like playing, talking, or using imagination — but there’s so much more happening beneath the surface. Through imaginative play and conversation, children are learning how to express their feelings, problem-solve, and communicate effectively with others.

What looks like “just play” is actually intentional therapy. These moments help build language, emotional expression, social skills, and confidence in a way that feels natural and engaging.

In our therapy sessions, we meet children where they are and use what motivates them most — because meaningful communication grows best through connection and play.

Occupational Therapy in action ✍️💙

One of our friends was hard at work during an OT session, practicing handwriting skills while using a sensory box in between writing tasks. The sensory breaks helped support focus, regulation, and fine motor control — making it easier to return to writing with confidence.

What may look like play is actually purposeful therapy. Sensory tools are thoughtfully used to help the body and brain stay engaged, organized, and ready to learn.

In Occupational Therapy, every activity has intention — building the skills kids need for greater independence at home, at school, and in everyday life. ✨

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we reflect on the power of service, unity, and hope.
Dr. King’s vision reminds us that meaningful change starts with compassion—and that’s at the heart of everything we do.

Today, we encourage our community to honor his legacy through kindness, inclusion, and service—big or small, it all matters. 💙

✂️ Cutting Playdough = Big Skills! ✂️

Using scissors on playdough might look like play, but it’s actually practice for real-life cutting and fine motor skills! Activities like this help strengthen hand muscles, coordination, and confidence—so every little snip makes a big difference.

Practice makes better, and play makes it fun! 💙✨

It may look like just a tablet, but it’s a powerful voice. 💙

AAC devices are communication tools used in therapy to help children express their thoughts, needs, and feelings when spoken words are difficult. From asking for a favorite toy to saying “I need help” or “I’m happy,” these devices give children a way to connect with the world around them.

Each button pressed represents understanding.
Each message shared builds confidence.
And each success supports independence in everyday life — at home, at school, and beyond.

At APT, we believe every child deserves to be heard, in whatever way works best for them. Because communication isn’t just about words — it’s about connection. ✨

🧠 What Are Executive Functions? 🧠

Ever wondered how kids plan, focus, and manage their time? That’s all thanks to executive functions—the brain skills that help with attention, self-control, organization, and problem-solving.

Our latest blog breaks down what executive functions are, why they matter, and how therapy can support kids in strengthening these essential skills.

Check it out and learn more about helping your child thrive every day! 💙✨

https://kidtherapy.org/what-are-executive-functions/

Executive functions are the essential self-regulating skills that we all use every day to plan, organize, make decisions and learn from past mistakes. Kiddos rely on their executive functions for everything from taking a shower, playing with a toy, writing their name, or even eating a snack!
